We booked the tour for 12pm, but it didn’t end up leaving until 1.30pm, which meant we did not get back until just before 5pm. That caused issues for us because we had booked an e-bike tour commencing at 5pm, which we were late for. I had specifically written to the tour operator to check that the hour gap we were supposed to have between tours was sufficient, but did not get a response. We were not advised until 11am that the tour was not commencing until 1pm (though didn’t start until 1.30pm). As it turns out, the change in time was because we were joining a large tour bus which had come in from Athens. The large size of the tour meant there was a significant delay getting into each of the two monasteries we visited (with the group having to pay to go through each). There was no commentary or guides while inside the monasteries, though we got some information about them on the bus. Overall the format of the tour was not very good. The guide was knowledgeable and accommodating, and we stopped at some lovely spots for photos. We ended up making it to the e-bike tour and I have to say, it was a much better way of seeing the area. The light late afternoon was much nicer and it was much less hot.

It was unthinkable to come to Greece without visiting Meteora. The site is breathtaking and definitely worth the detour. Even the site is very far from Athens, the trip went by very quickly thanks to our great driver Costas. We really recommend this trip.
