Immerse yourself in the essence of Catalunya with a visit to the 1000 year old Monastery of Montserrat and discover the wonders of the famous mountain, a National Park and place of pilgrimage from millions of people around the world.
Upon arrival, board the cogwheel train to the Monastery and marvel at the stunning views along the way. Enjoy a 45 minutes expert guided tour of the monastery, followed by a tasting of locally produced liquors elaborated by the monks of Montserrat. After this, you will have around 2 hours of free time on your own.
Next, head over to a traditional Farmhouse from the 12th century with spectacular views, where you will enjoy a deliciously prepared 3-course lunch with a wine pairing menu curated by an expert sommelier.
Spend the afternoon exploring an authentic wine cellar accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, and cap off the day with a delightful final wine tasting session.
The tour concludes with a trip back to the meeting point in Barcelona.

What To Expect
Montserrat
Montserrat is a mountain top monastery situated on top of an unusual rock mountain. It is the highest point of the Catalan lowlands. Montserrat monastery hosts “la Moreneta”, also called Black Madonna. The legend says that the benedictine monks found the statue, and they could not move the statue to build their monastery, so they decided to construct it around the statue. Montserrat was designated as a National Park in 1987. Nowadays, it is a site of pilgrimage for people around the world. Once in Montserrat, enjoy a 45-minute small group guided tour, and then you will have 2 hours to explore on your own. You can visit the Museum, taste the monastery’s homemade liquor, go for an easy walk to Saint Miguel's cross for an incredible viewpoint, go up the Sant Joan Funicular, take wonderful pictures, buy local products from the farmer's market, and more.
Abadia de Montserrat
The origin of the monastery is uncertain, but it is believed that the Virgin of Monsterrat (La Moreneta) was found around 880. (8.30 am and 1.30 pm tours include tickets to La Moreneta). According to the legends, the monks built the monastery around the statue. The monastery still functions to this day with over 70 monks. The basilica of Montserrat began its construction in the 16th century, and now houses an art museum. It is also the place where la Escolania, one of the oldest Boys’ Choirs in Europe, performs during religious ceremonies (you can listen to them on the 9.30 am tour).

5.00The Montserrat tour with cog train and wine tasting was truely an amazing day. A small group of 9 people with Francesco as our brilliant tour guide. Knowledgable, fun, amusing and very tuneful! The whole day was so enjoyable and this was thanks to Francesco and to a lovely mixed group of people. We so enjoyed the friendlyness created by a group of strangers - it really was very special. The whole trip was full of interesting and fun facts , amazing views, beautiful monestry and interesting conversation, and amazing wines and tasty tapss. Thank you to Francesco and the lovely group we were lucky to join - it was the perfect day!

5.00This had to be the best guided tour we’ve ever done. Brian started the day strong with some historical facts about Barcelona turned into a full costumed play in the tour bus. We visited beautiful breathtaking Montserrat and ended the day at Abadal winery, an over a thousand years old vineyard. Brian once again brought the entertainment to the function with multiple costumes and endless laughter. Worth every single penny and more!
