The awesome natural setting alone was worth the trip, but the donated art collection is not to be missed. Our guide Angela’s, love of the history and culture of the area was contagious.

Mari Carmen Rodriguez was our guide for the day along with our driver Juan! The day was PERFECT! Juan picked us up at our Hotel and brought us to the center of Barcelona to meet Mari! They both were fantastic! She had all the tickets previously purchased and we were able to do so much during out time together. We did not wait in any lines to see the “Black Madonna” and we were able to hear the angelic voices of the Boys choir on Monserrat. It was so emotional and moving. The day could not have been any better. Mari was such a joy and education us as to what we were seeing. We were able to do some shopping and I had asked Mari if she could assist me with purchasing a gold medal of the “Black Madonna”. She did happily! If we ever come back to Barcelona (and I am sure we will),we are going to reach out to Mari to be our guide! Thank you, Mari…..it was so wonderful to meet you!

Angela did an amazing job carterring to our family of five (parents and three 20-somethings). She was uber informative and enthusiastic for five hours!! I noticed that she connected in conversation with each one of us at one point or another. My kids ask many questions from Montserrat to current events. Her answers were thorough and empathic. We really enjoed our morning and left feeling terrific about the tour.

The tour guide was not what I have come to expect from Viator. The guide, Anthony, told us very little about the tour on the long drive to Monserrat. He did tell us that he had to be back on time for his next scheduled tour that afternoon. He was very clear about that and mentioned it numerous times during the day. It seemed to be of paramount concern to him. The video explaining Monserrat was not working when we got there. Anthony did not offer to share what was on the video. He told us about the gift shop and the other attractions including the museum. We told Anthony that we were most interested in the boys' choir presentation at 1:00 PM. He told us that it was usually a good idea to get into the church no later than 15 minutes prior to the presentation. He amended that projection several times during the day going with 45 minutes early at one point. We felt that he was trying to discourage us from going at all. He repeatedly told us that we had to get out of the church and back in the car no later than 1:30 because we had to be back to the hotel by 2:30 so he could get to his next tour. His final recommendation was to go wait 15 minutes early. We decided to go and wait in the courtyard a little after noon (it was raining) and were glad that we did. The church was packed before 12:30. It was obvious to us that he made that last adjustment hoping that we would skip it or miss it so that he could get us back in the car on time. During the museum tour, Anthony failed to tell us about the audio tour that was available. He said he would guide the tour of the museum. He took us to his personal favorites, bypassing all but one of the audio tour exhibits. He did little more than read the plaques by the paintings and offer his personal opinions. He argued with my daughter when she offered an opinion on a painting. He assumed that we were culturally ignorant. We were not. We are educated people and my daughter has an art history background. His cavalier attitude was insulting. It was a terrible experience and we feel like Anthony did not properly represent Viator. It was also the birthday of one of our group members and Anthony did nothing, to say the least, to make her or any of us feel special the entire five hour tour. We booked two previous tours with Viator that same week and they were so fabulous. The guides were knowledgeable beyond. It really made our trip, this is what Viator normally represents. I am so embarrassed that I booked this tour, at a major financial cost to have this happen. A total waste.
