What a fantastic trip. We were lucky with the weather but our guide Gede was amazing. He was friendly and helpful. He obviously knew where the best place to sit was and also got us hot drinks at the top. Views were stunning. About a 5k walk each way but not too strenuous. A bit slippery on the loose dirt on the way down but Gede held my wife's hand and made sure she was safe. So glad we did this. Excellent!!

Absolutely worth the early wake up! The hike itself was a good challenge but definitely some level of fitness is required. Would recommend bringing a backpack, jumper and even wear leggings as it was freezing up the top! We were lucky our guide (Wankie) had brought us a blanket otherwise they do sell them for $5NZD at the top of the volcano.

We had the BEST day with the Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking team! Pickup was on time and our driver Kadek was friendly and professional. I found the hike very tough (I'm very unfit 😬) but our guide Made was so patient and encouraging, and literally held my hand up the last ascent to make sure I managed it safely - I couldn't have done it without him and I'm so grateful for his help! The view from the top (glimpsed between the clouds) was spectacular and well worth the effort, and Made took some fantastic photos for us. Breakfast at the lake-view cafe was delicious too. Yes, this trip is more expensive than others but in this case you definitely get what you pay for and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking to others.

Trekking up a volcano in the dark in the middle of the night is insane right! This experience pushed a lot of my physical limits but was absolutely worth it for the gorgeous sunrise. The trek itself was very challenging but our guide Jro was an angel! He would break with me as much as I needed and we took it slow and steady to the summit. And let me tell you…WOW! We had such a beautiful morning on the summit with a clear sunrise. It is quite cold once you get to the top (not so much on the way up) so be sure to have leggings and a jacket to be prepared. Jro also brought us hot chocolate/tea and hard boiled eggs to warm us up and help us refuel. The trek down was a piece of cake and it was lovely seeing all of the forest and scenery missed in the dark. At the end our driver Arya took us to breakfast (which was included!) at a lovely restaurant with a view of the volcano. It was too cloudy to see it but still fun dining in the clouds. The food and coffee were delicious and much needed after the morning of exercise. Overall, would I do this trek again…no, only because it was highly challenging for me. However, would I recommend it to everyone I know…absolutely! When in Bali you must ask for Jro and trek to the summit of Mt. Batur. It is a once in a lifetime experience!

An absolute highlight of this hike were our two Balinese guides who provided interesting information and conversation for those keen to talk and learn. This was a fairly rigorous upward walk rewarded with spectacular sunrise views. We were lucky enough to hike up in full moon conditions adding beauty to the night part of our hike. It’s very chilly at the top requiring jackets. Teens found the strenuous hike on little sleep (for 2am pick up) challenging. Although a manageable hike for relatively fit walkers, it is difficult for the less fit. Our guides proved to be superb coaches for those finding the steepness and cardio work out challenging. The descent after sunrise allowed us to take in the natural beauty that had been cloaked in darkness on our ascent. Once the hike was over we were driven to a cafe to enjoy a well-deserved breakfast. The views from the breakfast cafe were spectacular but the food and coffee was disappointingly underwhelming.
