Step beyond the typical sake experience and dive into the birthplace of Japanese sake—Nara, where tradition began over a thousand years ago in the quiet halls of Buddhist temples. This isn’t just a tasting tour—it’s a cultural immersion into the origins of Japan’s sacred drink.
You’ll visit four unique locations, including working breweries and a historic sake shop tucked inside old Naramachi, sampling a wide range of styles—from crisp and dry to rich and mellow. Along the way, your expert guide will share stories of monks, master brewers (tōji), and regional flavors, helping you understand the heart and history behind every sip.
With personalized insight, direct access to local producers, and the atmosphere of Nara’s timeless streets, this tour offers more than sake—it delivers a deep connection to Japanese heritage.

A sip here reflects the serene essence of Nara's sacred landscape.
Located just steps away from the historic Sarusawa Pond and the heart of Naramachi, Imanishi Seibei Shoten has been crafting sake since 1884. I booked this experience as a solo traveler. I wholeheartedly, recommend this to anyone in the Nara area. Eri my tour guide was an amazing person who had great information and was a professional and personable facilitator of both the sake and local cuisine. The booking and location meet up was clearly communicated via viator, and further communication was available and used with WhatsApp. One of the original sake places was closed due to circumstance, but Eri had alternative shops that I feel led to an even more authentic experience. We went to local spots and shops that I would not have known about. In addition, the information about sake and the cuisine from the tour guide created a holistic experience. I would recommend this tour to any solo traveler or groups. The information experience you pay for is well worth.
