Beautiful museum with lots of interesting things to learn and see. I think there are other better museums in Singapore to visit if your time is limited, but the location is smack dab in the middle of the city and is 5-10 minutes on foot away from many other great museums.

Been living in the Far-East for a long time and knew Singapore since the early eighties! Seen the changes with my own eyes. Even for outsiders, the museum provides a unique insight how SE Asia is melting pot of different cultural societies, language, religion, etc. who came together for various reasons over the past 400 years plus. And Fort Canning is at the back within walking distance.

With an evening flight home coupled with the standard mid-day hotel check-out I left my visit to this fantastic museum to my last day in Singapore and was not disappointed. The S$10 entrance fee includes an option of join one of the 1 hour guided tours and is highly recommended as it provides a good overview of the countries history. Following the tour I returned to the Historical area to enjoy a more leisurely appreciation of the exhibits and many inter-active displays while taking a much needed break from the very hot temperatures experienced during my 4 day break in Singapore. The museum is a very popular spot for tourists and local school children of field trips and can get very busy from late morning onwards. A must see location. very close to the Bencoolen MRT stop and served by several bus routes.

Excellent Museum covering Singapore's history from European discovery, through to the brutal second world war occupation and finally independence and modernization. Well worth the visit and you can gain a lot of insight in only a few hours.
