The 'other side of the river' is something heard every day in Porto, especially among locals. But likely few visitors know what lays beyond the wine caves along the riverside.
On this tour, we showcase a non-touristy area full of homemade cuisine and alive with local culture. We'll walk through the winding, narrow streets of Gaia, visit the oldest winery in Portugal founded by King Joseph I and the Marques of Pombal, and discover both “classic” Porto food, such as the francesinha, as well as local secrets like alheira. Each tasting will be paired with local wine or beer.
While enjoying the stroll and tastings, you will learn about both Portuguese and regional history, not only from our guide but from the locals that adore to talk and share their experiences, all the while getting the best views over the city of Porto.
Don't Miss - when visiting the oldest winery in Portugal you'll get to enter a secret wine cave with aging bottles of port wine that are hundreds of years old.

Ribas was an excellent guide! He shared a wealth of cultural, historical, and gastronomic information with us and provided a wonderful experience. Would take another tour with him in a heartbeat.

Ribas gave an excellent tour of food and wine in Porto. We started in the wine cellar and learned about the process of making port and had a great tasting. After that we hit a bunch of food pots and ate delicious food and of course had more wine. The conversation was great and Ribs provided so much insight into the culture of Portugal and was just a great dude to talk to in general. If you want to feel like you’re on a trip with a local friend, definitely take this tour.

I cannot express how great this tour was! Ribas was the most amazing amazing tour I’ve ever had. I already loved Eating Europe tours because of how incredible my Athens tour was but Ribas and this tour blew me out of the water. It was a long tour where we got to try Port, so much amazing food, the most fantastic sandwich I have ever had. It felt like hanging out with a friend, a local, someone who’s there to take care of you. Diogo was absolutely fantastic. This tour is 10/10 worth it. I would give it 10 stars if I could!

Ribas is an amazing host 👌 the food and port were pretty good but the stories made the experience excellent. Highly recommend. Better than our similar tour in Lisbon.

Ribas delivered an exceptional food and wine tour that was the perfect start to our Portugal trip. We visited several wonderful dining spots and enjoyed an outstanding wine tasting and tour. Along the way, Ribas shared fascinating insights into the history behind the food and wine, as well as stories about Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia that truly enriched the experience. My husband and I highly recommend Eating Europe Tours—and if you’re lucky enough to have Ribas as your guide, you’re in for a fantastic experience. Thank you for making our first day in Portugal so memorable!

Even that the day was a very rainy day the tour was amazing. Our guide Rib was friendly and he made the tour very educational about wine and the history of wine in Portugal. He answered all our questions and told us about other historical facts about Portugal. Our group highly recommend this tour and our guide Rib made it complete.

Maria was fab, and plied us (in the most glorious way) with all of the local delicacies wines. The tour of the local, more bespoke winery was incredible and beautiful. The walk was nice, the weather ideal, and the various restaurant owners charming and delightful. Also a big thanks to her for the palatable history lessons and sound bites.
