Omalia Olive Press
Our first stop is visiting a 4th generation olive oil factory. You see firsthand the modern techniques and equipment used alongside traditional methods passed down through generations. As you explore the factory, you have the opportunity to taste the fruits of this labor – rich, golden olive oil freshly pressed from the harvest. Each sip is a revelation, a burst of flavor that transports you to the sun-drenched hillsides where the olives were grown. But beyond the sensory experience, visiting an olive oil factory in Crete offers a deeper understanding of the island's culture and heritage. Olive oil is not just a culinary staple here; it is a symbol of life itself, revered for its health benefits and intrinsic connection to the land. As you bid farewell to the factory, you carry with you not just a bottle of olive oil, but a piece of Crete's soul – a tangible reminder of the timeless bond between this ancient land and its most precious fruit.

What a beautiful way to explore Crete! Me and my partner were visiting Crete for the first time and I really wanted us to not only see the famous landmarks but also experience the local culture. I am so glad I booked this tour! It was 2 of us and one more couple on this tour - which was great as we got along very well ☺️ Our guide Stavros was amazing! Super friendly, knowledgeable and flexible! The whole experience felt so natural, we didn’t rush, got enough time to explore Knossos palace, and Lasithi Plateu. We visited local villages, learnt about olive oil processing, tasted freshly pressed olive oil and local olives, honey, yoghurt and raki. We saw the windmills and learnt about their history and farming practices. We drank amazing coffee and visited a local church in the mountains. We had a go at pottery making ☺️, we picked local strawberries and had some local wine under fruit trees in the mountains! We saw the Cave of Zeus, unfortunately we couldn’t go inside since its pending renovation since recent earthquake, but regardless of that our experience of Crete couldn’t be any better! We also tasted different varieties of grapes, learnt about herbs, goats and local islands. We saw one of the oldest trees (over 2000 years old)! Stavros, you have a great sense of humour, you are very knowledgeable and really made us feel so welcome! Thank you so much for your hospitality! ☺️🌻 ps great updates throughout the booking experience from Nikos, we knew the exact pick up location and pick up time and it was super easy to communicate ☺️ highly recommend to anyone who is a newby to Crete and want to experience the landmarks as well as the culture ☺️

If you are thinking about booking, DO IT. This was an amazing experience! I would recommend this tour to anyone. Spyros allowed us to his summer home to see his vast garden. We went into the village and had coffee, and even met one of his friends who hosted us in his home to learn about his family history and eat fresh melon from his garden. We also had a traditional lunch near the plateau. My boyfriend and I shared three dishes, the dakos, wine leaves (made with zucchini flower blooms), and the Moussaka. All of which were delicious, but I can’t get the dakos or the wine leaves out of my mind! This made our Crete experience so memorable.

This was supposed to be a group trip, but the other family had to cancel and we ended up with an "accidentally private" tour. It was above expectations, specially because of our guide, Spyros. He does everything to ensure that you don't feel he is a guide presenting touristic spots, but a local presenting his home. He tells interesting personal stories, seems to deeply know everyone he presents, and show a clear love for the island. He made some stops to show us local herbs and even showed us the impressive garden of his family home. The tour itself is very nice. Pickup without issues, comfortable van and free water. I was impressed at how well the Knossos Palace is conserved. The unexpected highlight was the stop to pick fresh strawberries and eat them with fresh local yoghurt.

If you’re even thinking about exploring Crete, stop what you’re doing and book a tour with Spyros—right now. This was, hands down, one of the most unforgettable experiences of our entire trip to Greece. Spyros didn’t just take us through the Cretan countryside—he immersed us in it. From the moment we met him, it felt like we were being welcomed by an old friend. He’s not only incredibly knowledgeable about the history, culture, and traditions of Crete, but he shares it all with such heart and humor that every stop feels like a story coming to life. We drove by olive groves, visited hidden mountain villages, met locals we never would’ve found on our own, and tasted the most incredible food—each moment made more meaningful by Spyros’ passion for his homeland. What could have been a simple sightseeing tour became something deeply personal and genuinely magical. Spyros has that rare ability to connect with people instantly and make you feel like you’re not just visiting a place—you’re becoming a part of it. If you want a cookie-cutter tour, look elsewhere. But if you want to see the real Crete—the beauty, the soul, the stories—then Spyros is your guy. This tour didn’t just exceed our expectations; it redefined them. 1000% recommend.
