Mike was a fantastic guide! Everyone in our group was astonished about his knowledge of the island. He was very conscientious of our timely return to the ship. I highly recommend this tour.

Absolutely fantastic. We started at Knossos before anyone else was there; magical. Then went up in the mountains to tour an olive oil factory, experience small Greek villages, see amazing viewpoints, etc. We’ve traveled all over for many years and this was one of the best tours we have ever taken. Starvos was our guide and he could not have been more informative, engaging and just downright fun. We laughed so hard at times that for my family the joy and lightheartedness made the tour priceless. We won’t forget our day driving through Crete with Starvos, ever.

It was a blast. Obviously you want to see Knossos but then we went into the mountains, visiting small villages, an olive oil factory, and stunning viewpoints. And our guide, Stavros, was a stand up comedian except he drove really well instead of standing on a stage! We had a fantastic day. Our 27 year old called it the funniest tour ever and we were learning Greek history. Can’t beat that!

We knocked it pit of the park with our choice to book this tour. It SO exceeded expectations, A+++! Mike was absolutely wonderful. He’s a storyteller with a head full of geography, botany and he remembers every small detail he’s probably ever learned. He’d quiz us trivia style and then teach us about the answer or history thereof. Like a professor, he could bring stories to life. Born and bred in Crete he loves his island and heritage along with the Greek heritage that comes along with that. He made us want to return to Crete because there is no way you can see it all in a day. He had more experiences to see than we had time for, as we had to return to our cruise ship. He’d have been happy of we’d booked 8 am - 8 pm to do them all! The Sprinter van was new as of summer 2025 and it showed. Gregarious, a teacher, a storyteller, and in love with his island… you can’t get a better tour guide in Crete than this. Enjoy, you’ll love the ride!

This was a wonderful small group tour. Very well organized. We got to visit an olive oil making farm and taste some delicious olive oil and treats. We enjoyed the scenic vistas, learning about the history of the island and a local place where we stopped for lunch. All in all, a wonderful tour

This tour was an incredible way to see the Heraklion area and truly experience Cretan culture. Our guide, Mike, went above and beyond to make the day special - he took us to an authentic olive oil factory where we learned about both the traditional and modern manufacturing processes, as well as the deep importance of olive oil to Cretan life. He shared so much fascinating history and cultural insight throughout the day, and even brought us to a family-run pottery shop where we got to try the wheel ourselves - such a fun and memorable experience! We also saw some breathtaking views along the way, and finished the day at an authentic local tavern with the best food we’ve eaten in Greece. Highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting an authentic and personal look at Crete!

If you are thinking about whether to book this tour, stop thinking and just book it! The places visited are all in the itinerary so I will not repeat them but focus on the highlights of a fantastic day out. The first thing was that we were the only members of the group coming from our side of the Island so we ended up with a private tour. The second and most important part of the tour was we had Mike as our guide - how many PhDs, special forces Lieutenant generals can there be on one Island! Importantly the running order was changed so we went to Knossos Palace first, there was a tour group just ahead of us but a swift manoeuvre at the gates and we had the place pretty much to ourselves to explore and take our photos. On leaving it was starting to pack out and the car park full of coaches which were setting the tone for the rest of the day. Back to Mike, he was constantly updating us on what we were seeing what was ahead and he was clearly both educated and proud of his country. History; agriculture; mythology; economics and even politics were discussed, he asked us questions, answered our questions and even answered those we should have asked first! As a now private tour we skipped lunch having just a complementary drink at a cafe in a pretty square on the way to the plateau and the windmills. This left us time for photo stops and also a visit to a pottery studio, which was not on the itinerary but was on the way. This wasn’t a hard sell visit to a store selling mass produced tourist items but to a local artisan who showed us how he made the pots, one after another all the same size and shape and all from touch and sight. We had access to this because Mike knew the owners and they were happy to welcome us. So in summary a brilliant tour, a brilliant tour leader in Mike and worth every penny. We managed to get a private tour due to the way the bookings fell but would also recommend that as an option if available.
