I am writing to share feedback on our recent family tour to the Champagne region in France, which included a luncheon and champagne tasting. While we appreciated the opportunity to explore such a beautiful area, there are a few aspects of the experience that we believe could be improved. Firstly, Martin, our driver was friendly . However, it is important to note that he was not equipped to serve as a tour guide. His heavy accent made it challenging for us to understand the information he was trying to convey, which led to repeated requests for clarification. This language barrier unfortunately detracted from our overall experience, as we were eager to learn more about the region and its offerings. Additionally, although the van was equipped with a microphone, Martin used it for less than 60 seconds throughout the entire tour. Instead, he spent most of the time speaking quietly to the two passengers seated in the front, leaving those of us in the backseat unable to hear or engage during nearly two hours of driving. This limited our ability to benefit from any insights or commentary he might have provided. During the luncheon, we encountered some confusion regarding the dishes served. While we were grateful that dietary restrictions were considered, we were not informed about the specifics of the dishes, being served beyond the obvious items like salad bread and cheese. This lack of information left us uncertain about what we were eating, which was disappointing given the culinary aspect of the tour. Furthermore, the champagne and wine tasting lacked the informative component we had anticipated. The guide's role seemed limited to pouring drinks, without providing details about the types of champagne or wine, or suggestions for pairings. He did refer to laminated printouts for our second tasting. In the end, it felt as though we simply had a driver and someone to pour champagne, rather than a comprehensive tour experience. Considering the cost of $1450 for six people, we felt that the experience did not fully meet our expectations. In hindsight, organizing our own itinerary with a dedicated driver and luncheon might have offered a more enriching and personalized experience without the expense.

Be prepared to have a great experience ! Anne was our guide and she shared so much of her knowledge with our group. We liked the small family champagne houses the best.

Our guide Thomas was absolutely amazing. It was such a fun day and very cool to learn about the champagne making process and the history of the area. Lunch was also great! I think I speak for everyone in my group when I say that we had an amazing time!

In addition to tasting champagne, this tour provides a beautiful window into Reims as a region. Observing rows of vines from a small hill in the shade and encountering the resting place of Dom Perignon in Saint-Sindulphe are a few experiences that make this trip feel like a wholistic introduction to the land that produces the thing we call champagne. Moving on to the champagne itself, the tasting at Lancelot-Royer felt like a once in a lifetime opportunity. Enjoying (and buying!) a beverage crafted with immense care by a small producer that doesn't frequently sell internationally is a privilege I won't be forgetting anytime soon.
