Republic Square
During the Soviet period it was called Lenin Square and a statue of Vladimir Lenin stood at the square. Soviet parades and celebrations were held twice (originally thrice) a year until 1988. After Armenia's independence, Lenin's statue was removed and the square was renamed.
It is one of the original metro stations in the city of Yerevan and was opened to the public on 7 March 1981. It is connected to the adjacent Yerevan railway station by a pedestrian tunnel. It is named for David of Sassoun, a statue of whom stands outside the railway station.

First of all I have to say that our tour guide as very knowledgeable and confident. Don't think you're going to squeeze in any extra stops on this tour! In all seriousness though the entire route/tour/plan was GREAT. It was very methodical, well planned and executed. Our guide was very knowledgeable and quite nicely interspersed her personal history with what was going on at the time. For anyone who likes Soviet history, this REALLY turned out to be a very pleasant afternoon! If you want to know what "Bangladesh" is all about, you'll have to join the tour to find out :-)

We loved our half-day Soviet Tour of Yerevan. Marine was our guide and we were so grateful that even though there was just two of us--she did not cancel the tour. My sister and I enjoyed learning about the Soviet times in Yerevan. This tour was unique with a mix of walking and driving. I appreciated that we got to see and explore various locations around the city--such as a planned neighborhood built in the 80s, the Bangladeshi Market, and both the Railway Station and the Children's Railway (an entertainment destination in Soviet time), and we got to walk through the Kond Pedestrian Tunnel as well. Marine was most knowledgeable and personable. I would highly recommend her for any tour!

Informative and entertaining tour looking back at Yerevan’s Soviet past. And if you’re very lucky you will get an ice cream.

I LOVED this tour! If you’re big into Soviet history, or even just looking to see a different side of Yerevan, I highly recommend. It was such a unique way to go to the outskirts of the city and understand how people lived in Soviet times (and even continue to live to this day). I especially enjoyed the Soviet jokes from our guide Marine. Highly recommend!

The Guide was very enthusiastic and could answer all our questions. She's humorous and social. The 4 o'clock flew by. We enjoyed all the stories, explanations, unexpected places we have been. This tour gives a totally different view of Yerevan and really adds something to our stay there.

Very informative half-day tour with charming tour guide who provided several personal insights into times past. We were taken to some memorable destinations with plenty of opportunities to take photos and get to know our new friends. Tour included some nice drinks, snacks and treats along the way as part of the price.

Super interesting tour about the soviet time of Yerevan. Especially the walk through the old soviet flats was very impressive. Edgar was a fantastic Guide who gave information about the soviet era but was also open about his own experience in Armenia and the geopolitics around it. Because of a cancellation I was the only participant during the tour but that didn't get in the way of the experience. Super nice that Edgar was so professional even though the attendance was unfortunately less than expected
