Amazing geology and scenery. Gives a great insight into the early settlers lives. The old coaches were comfortable and beautifully kept.

A very comfortable train journey. The staff were very good. The commentary was helpful. Booking was easy and the staff in the station were pleasant and professional. The scenery is wonderful and as you cannot get there by road it was nice to see a bit of wilderness before it is all gone. A nice rest from driving. The buffet car has a good selection of snacks and drinks.

The trip itself is wonderful but we had to rebook via our cruise ship because there was not enough time to get to Dunedin railway station for the train. Booking via the cruise line the train leave from the cruise terminal? This is not entirely clear when you book.

The train trip was good. Commentary on the trip was really interesting. The problem we had however, was that there had been large weather issues and the train was late. Didn't leave in the morning for about 30 minutes, then we had to sit in a couple of places to allow the earlier train to get 20 minutes ahead. On the way home there was a signalling issue that made us even later. Total about 1hour 30 minutes late. In saying this ,however, the crew and staff were extremely accommodating in making sure our shuttle transport back to our Cruise ship was waiting for us, even tho they were supposed to finish earlier.
