The Great Mosque of Kairouan
Join us on a journey to the Great Mosque, a site of immense historical significance and the first place of worship in the Maghreb, established just thirty-eight years after the death of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Rebuilt in the 9th century, the mosque is a major monument of Islam and a stunning example of universal architecture, maintaining its original design in a quadrilateral layout of 135 meters by 80 meters. To the south, an impressive hypostyle prayer hall contains seventeen naves, supported by exquisite marble and porphyry columns. To the north lies a vast paved courtyard framed by graceful porticoes, dominated by a striking three-story square minaret. As an architectural masterpiece, the Great Mosque has influenced many mosques across the Maghreb, showcasing unique decorative motifs that reflect its rich artistic heritage. Visiting this remarkable site offers a powerful glimpse into a profound cultural and spiritual legacy.

Beautiful places punctual guide and very good in explanations. In addition to the sites to visit, we tried and bought local specialties and went to non-tourist places.

This excursion is ideal if you do it as a couple or few people. It becomes very enjoyable and very interesting. Our guide Mohamed was fantastic, he explained everything to us at our own pace and according to our interests. The driver was also very friendly.

I absolutely recommend this tour. Having visited more than 50 countries, I can say that this excursion is excellent and meets the highest standards. Our guide, Mohamed, is an incredibly respectful and intelligent person who consistently made an effort to ensure our stay was unforgettable. He taught us a lot about the country and introduced us to various cultural aspects that emerged throughout the tour. The driver, Ameur, is a very careful and kind man. You definitely have to take this tour!!

We went via Tunisian Tourist Service. Our guide was quiet, hardly gave us any information, in fact when we got to Kairouan we waited for and learned from a different party much more. (Respect the dress sense here) . You visit the grounds but cannot go inside the actual mosque. There is a large shop outside but this is not cheap. El Jem is more interesting, a little walk from the bus park. This apparently was never used and is in very good condition considering how old it is.

This was a perfect tour. You get to see a lot of Tunisia on the way to each location. The mosque at Kairouan was stunning and the town around it had so much to see. The coliseum at Wl Jen is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. We also visited a museum with spectacular mosaics. Now, I had the same tour guide for 3 day trips so this next part will be the same on two other reviews. Ghassen was easily one of the best tour guides I’ve ever had. He was always on time and very passionate about Tunisia. He knows the history, culture, science, and more about everything. The whole drive he is telling you about the regions we drove through, the agriculture, the industry, the people, and anything else you can think of. If you book with this company, ask for Ghassen. Highly recommended

This was a fantastic tour to Kairouam and El Jem with the right amount of activities for one day. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and kept things interesting even with the long drives. The Medina and mosque in Kairouam were both very interesting and included a shopping stop. The colosseum and museum in El Jem were both very impressive too. Highly recommend this tour.

The mosque was pleasant to visit and of great historical import but not spectacular as some are; you will almost certainly spend more time in the carpet shop. The amphitheatre is impressive but our time there was very limited. The trip includes a lot! of driving and we found the car uncomfortable and that it was difficult to communicate with the driver and guide while we were on the road. All this for several hundred $$

We really enjoyed this tour with Ghassen. Because we were a small group, out of season, we were taken around by car. Great communication about pickup, we were kept informed of a.minor change. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable and had a great command of English. Also speaks Polish and German. The tour was of a good length, around seven hours with a stop for lunch. Recommended
