What makes this experience truly unique is the opportunity to create a functional Japanese knife through a hands-on process guided by a local blacksmith in historic Asakusa. Rather than simply observing, guests actively take part in shaping and refining their own blade using traditional tools, gaining firsthand insight into the precision, patience, and craftsmanship that define Japanese knife-making. The small-group setting allows for personal instruction in a calm, welcoming workshop, making the experience accessible to beginners while remaining deeply authentic. Guests leave not only with a handcrafted knife, but with a genuine connection to one of Japan’s most respected artisan traditions.

  • 10/10 Can't wait to come back

Excellent overall experience! Awesome vibe 10/10 would recommend. When you arrive at the street corner, look for the sign Japanese Craft Studio, go up the stairs and then take the elevator to the 10th floor. We were pleasantly greeted and shown where we could store our stuff in cubbies. Nao was my host for knife-making, spoke very good English and was a great teacher! He offered me a choice of blade and then showed me how to sharpen on a wet stone and what to look for. For a small extra fee, you can get the handle engraved as well. I only had a reservation for the knife making, but they welcomed my wife to watch. Since they had an opening she was able to make chopsticks instead. Loved it!

Our instructor Nao was phenomenal, and all the staff were wonderful and so helpful, they all seemed genuinely invested in the art and gave excellent advice and instruction. The location is on the 10th floor and the calm atmosphere is so relaxing. The workshop is more of a knife sharpening experience that blacksmith forging but we had such a wonderful time and have two beautiful knives to take home with us. Thank you again to the wonderful team, and especially shout out to Nao who again was brilliant.

Dewi, Taku, and Nao were so friendly, helpful, and wonderful! They were informative and very patient with us! The knives are a simple wood, it would be nice if you could upgrade the handles too! There are two different knife options which is a chef’s blade and a vegetable knife! The vegetable knife is 4,000 yen more, but very worth it! You can add an engraving for 1,500 yen. Highly recommend the class!
