This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Join Putu and her family for a traditional Balinese meal in their family compound. You’ll taste a variety of authentic dishes such as Putu’s grilled eggplant with tomato, grilled fish with Balinese sambal (chili sauce), a curry dish (either chicken, fish or vegetarian) or perhaps a variety of pepes (foods seasoned with local spices, wrapped in banana leaves and then steamed), ranging from fish, chicken or tofu to banana savory (made with the root of the banana plant) as well as a sweet version with made with fresh coconut. She might make gado gado (vegetables in peanut sauce), rendang (an Indonesian curry), sayur urab (vegetables with fresh shredded coconut), or bregedel (corn fritters). The meal will end with something sweet, perhaps Putu’s black rice pudding with fresh coconut cream and fresh palm sugar, or her famous banana cake with lemon-butter cream. When in season, you will enjoy organic produce straight from the local trees.

This experience was absolutely amazing! Dining in a traditional Balinese home was unforgettable, and the food was truly delicious. Putu was an incredible host—she shared so much about Balinese culture, daily life in her village, and the meaning behind temples and traditions, which made the experience even more special. Her garden is beautiful, and knowing that many of the ingredients used in the dishes come straight from it made the meal feel even more authentic. We learned so much and felt completely immersed in the culture. This was one of the most memorable moments of our trip, and I cannot recommend it enough—everyone should do this experience!

Putu and her family are so warm and welcoming. They have beautiful smiles and made the full cooking experience so fun! I cannot wait to make these recipes at home. Everything was so delicious! This was one of our favorite experiences in Ubud and so cool to see a Balinese home / farm.

Fantastic experience and a really lovely evening. Putu was a very generous host from the friendly pick up at the hotel, sharing her home and insights into life in her local village and then providing wonderful guidance teaching me to cook a number of delicious local dishes using ingredients all sourced from her gardens. Eating the food whilst listening to the rain coming down was also very pleasant. Highly recommend to anyone who loves to cook with truly fresh ingredients and who is looking to experience true immersion into the local Ubud way of living.

Putu and her husband picked us up from our Villa (in Ubud) and drove us to their amazing family home. We were treated to a tour of their family temples and the incredible sustainable living environment that Putu and her family enjoy. Putu is an amazing teacher and supported us through the preparation of a 5 course traditional Balinese meal. Putu is patient, encouraging and openly shares her families rich Balinese cultural and heritage while you learn and prepare. After you eat your meal/s Putu and her family return you safely to your accommodation. The food was absolutely delicious, the experience was wonderful and I couldn’t recommend Putu’s home cooking more highly!!

We had the most incredible experience with Putu in her family home. We booked a private cooking experience for myself, spouse and two daughters. We were staying in Ubud and Putu and her husband Pasta came to get us to take us back to our class in their outdoor kitchen on the edge of their garden. The cooking experience was something we will never forget. The meal was delicious, her instructions were so easy to follow and Putu along with her cousin were there guiding us the whole time. Most of the ingredients came from their garden / farm which we got a chance to walk around before starting out lesson. As an added bonus Putu also showed us around her family temple and houses which was amazing to see a traditional Balinese home. I would highly recommend this beautiful experience and thank Putu and pasta for welcoming us in their home. With gratitude Lindsey

My daughter and I absolutely recommend doing this cooking class with Putu! This was the nicest meal I ate in Bali and we ate at a lot of upper class restaurants. All ingredients are grown on Putu’s organic farm, including the oil they use, the rice, potatoes, all herbs and spices and the chickens we ate. The meal left you feeling nourished. I wish I could eat like this everyday. It was so much fun cooking with my daughter and Putu and her neice. I loved this experience and I can’t wait to return to Bali to do it again. Highly recommend this experience. Worth every cent.

We had such an amazing and authentic time with Putu, and we were honoured to be invited into her home. Putu and her family grow almost all of the ingredients for your meal at their farm, including the chicken, and Putu is an excellent chef and teacher. She is patient and kind, and we were blessed to have gotten to know her today.

What a treat it was to spend an afternoon with Butu and her family. Their family compound is so interesting as she explains her family history and her home. Butu speaks English well. Once you have seen her garden, she starts her cooking course, which all I can say is very inspirational. She explains all the ingredients that we will be cooking with (which all comes from their family farm). The instruction is easy to follow and a lot of fun to do. After you are all done, you sit down and have one of the best Balinese meals we have had. Just come and have one of the best afternoons in Ubud.
