Explore El Chaltén, the national capital of hiking, on a full-day excursion from El Calafate. We travel Route 40 overlooking Mount Fitz Roy until we reach the start of the trek. The tour includes the Mirador Piedras Blancas and the option to choose between two circuits: the challenging climb to Laguna de los Tres or a more accessible hike to Laguna Capri. Both trails offer incredible scenery and total immersion in the nature of Los Glaciares National Park.
An unmissable experience for mountain and adventure lovers!

El Chalten
The day starts at 06:00 hs with the pick up for accommodation in El Calafate. The journey to El Chaltén, national capital of trekking, travels 220 km through the Patagonian steppe along the mythical National Route 40. Along the way, a short stop is made at the historic Estancia La Leona, by the river of the same name, where you can use the bathroom and enjoy a hot drink or homemade cakes (not included). As you go, you begin to see the peaks of the southern Andes and the unmistakable silhouette of Mount Fitz Roy.
When you arrive at El Chaltén, you make one last stop before starting the trekking, which begins at the Electric River Bridge. There the individual food is delivered and a second guide is added to accompany the group throughout the tour. The first section, measuring 6.3 km, is completed in about an hour and a half, gaining height to the Mirador Piedras Blancas, with spectacular views of the eponymous glacier. From there, the trail descends gently to the Poincenot Base Camp.

If you are staying in El Calafate but don't want to miss the trek to Laguna de Los Tres, I recommend this tour. The trail is self-guided, and the agency provides a driver who takes you to the entrance to the Fitz Roy trail in El Chalten. The trail is very difficult and requires a lot of physical preparation. But it's worth every second! The only negative point is that you can barely enjoy Laguna de Los Tres, because the driver picks us up at a specific time and we can't be late. We didn't even have time to enjoy the view, as we needed to rush back to avoid losing the van.
