A fantastic introduction to Tirana with K who was the perfect guide. It was great combination of historical knowledge, family stories, humour and contemporary political insight.

I fully enjoyed my walking tour in Tirana. Arber was really good as a guide and capable to answer any question. We were a relatively small group, so it was more like a private tour. 100% recommended. I got much more that I paid for.

This was a very informative tour and a great way to get exposed to the city. The tour is free but they ask from a donation of $15 per person. Wear good shoes because you do walk for a lot of walking over 2 hours. Our tour guide had a great sense of humor and provide historical information regarding Tirana. I would highly recommend taking this tour.

I took part in a Free Tour of Tirana with the guide Makbule, who turned out to be really prepared and passionate. In two and a half hours we had a pleasant tour of the city, during which he told us the history of Albania and showed us the most interesting places, all within walking distance of each other. It was an interesting, light and enjoyable tour. In the end, in two, we decided to give her €20, a reward more than deserved.

Unfortunately I got stuck in traffic and the taxi dropped me off no where near the meeting point. So i missed the tour. I was very annoyed...

It was great! We met up at the Opera stairs where we were split up into groups. Our guide Aurora (sorry if i messed up the name) was awesome and really funny. We had actually booked a different tour and then we decided the day before for this one. Totally the right decision. We really liked Aurora's approach to us as a group. She made the history talk quite interesting. Though I recommend this tour for the first day you arrive, we messed up there, but still enjoyed it. We got to all the main attractions and when we ended she gave us a list of recommendations. The atmosphere was very friendly. It is a free tour, but the organisation runs on our (tourist's) donations. I believe it's worth it and the amount of money you give is up to you, every penny counts.

Tirana is a photogenic city with many interesting building to photograph. The centre, Skanderbeg Square is enormous and a good starting point. From here you get a great view of the surrounding buildings. You can visit the small mosque Et'hem Bey on the edge of the square and admire the huge equestrian statue in the square and nearby is the old Clock Tower. From here you can walk to the Pyramid Building and climb the many steps to the top to get a city view. Also a visit to the Bunk Art 2, an underground bunker now dedicated to the history of Enva Hoxha's communist rule of Albania, is for those who like to read up on history. Its very interesting, in English and well laid out but you need a few hours to do it justice. The old castle area is full of shops and cafes and only the 20ft Ottoman gates remain at the entrance. There are no public toilets in Albania, you use cafes or toilets at sites you visit. Cafes are good value. Could spend a whole day wandering round.
