Koh Ker is unique for its pyramid-style main temple, Prasat Thom, its history as a short-lived capital of the Khmer Empire, and its remote, jungle-clad setting that provides a serene and off-the-beaten-path experience. Unlike the crowded Angkor temples, Koh Ker offers a more secluded atmosphere with a distinctive architectural style, a monumental seven-tiered pyramid, and numerous surrounding ruins hidden in the forest.
Beng Mealea is its status as an "Indiana Jones" style "lost temple," with a large portion of the structure partially collapsed and intertwined with the jungle. Unlike many other Angkorian temples, it has remained unrestored, creating a sense of adventure and mystery, and its architecture, though not mentioned in inscriptions, is complex and comparable to Angkor Wat.

We were a team of volunteers from the National Museum Bangkok touring Khmer temples outside of the Angkor complex. Koh Ker was really a highlight and very worth the extra time it takes to visit. Mr K is very professional and knowledgeable and we had an excellent tour with him and his professional driver. Will definitely use the service again when I come back!

After visiting the Angkor Wat complex and the Grand Circuit Tour on the following day, we decided to carry on with visiting other temples and get a more holistic insight into Cambodian culture so we chose Beng Mealea and Koh Ker complex. These are more secluded temples and therefore much quieter and less crowded, almost for yourself, in the middle of nature and where you can only hear the birds. We decided to go with Easy Angkor Trip, run by Mr. K. He gave us all kinds of details and curiosities which helped us to understand more about the history and religion of this fantastic country, besides taking lots of amazing pictures. We also had so much fun with Mr. Nakhim, our driver, who was always smiling and so attentive to all that we could need. Thanks to Mr. K we were also able to meet many different people, have a taste of the rich cuisine of the area (including some vegetables we took from the fields) and get to know more remote villages in the jungle. In short, we lived a unique experience that would not have been possible on our own. If you really want to understand the history and meet the people of Cambodia Mr. K. is your man. We highly recommend this tour, we are looking forward to come back to continue discovering this wonderful country.

So great to see an unrestored temple with the jungle overtaking. I would not have missed this. Mr K was a brilliant guide

This tour provides an interesting drive through rural landscapes & villages. Boeng Mealea requires a reasonable degree of fitness to access all it has to offer but definitely worth the effort. If it's uncrowded, it is so peaceful. Now included in the Angkor Pass. Short drive on to Koh Ker which is not, so far, included in Angkor Pass(buy US$15). Koh Ker has a good walking track into the main temple with a few low, easy stairs to navigate, then an excellent flat track around the site. Sturdy stairs (165 approx) at back of temple for climb to top. Not so well know so very quiet and tranquil, especially walking beside the moat when full of water. Plenty of local eating places and good toilet facilities at both locations. I highly recommend Kosorl as your guide for this amazing day trip. Kosorl is passionate about his job and proud of his Khmere history. He took very good care of us, is a very safe driver and happy to answer our questions.

Had an amazing tour with Kosorl. He is one of the best people I have ever met and really made the trip special. We were blown away with both Boeng Mealea and Koh Ker. They are very unique and probably one of the highlight of our trip. They are well worth making it too and since they are a ways from Angkor Watt you won't have the vast numbers of tourists and can experiance a little more authentic part of Cambodia.

My partner and I had a great day visiting Beng Mealea and the Koh Ker site with K. K is a friendly and enthusiastic guide, who’s passionate about Cambodia and Khmer history. He has excellent knowledge of the history of the Khmer empires and its temples. He also had many interesting facts to share about life in Cambodia and its countryside, making the drive to the temple complexes and back much more entertaining. K’s planning of the day was impeccable, with the driver always ready to move between sites, water and cold towels in the car, a great restaurant stop in an otherwise less touristically developed region, and perfectly timed shelter from a short but heavy burst of rain. The quality pictures he took of us during the day were also much appreciated. The Beng Mealea and Koh Ker sites are a completely different experience to Angkor Wat. We encountered only a handful of tourists at these sites, and oftentimes had the place to ourselves. The destruction imparted by nature on Beng Mealea is beautiful in its own way, and the views of the Cambodian jungle from the top of the stepped pyramid at Koh Ker are stunning. Both have been made accessible through wooden walkways and stairs. We’d recommend anyone to visit these two archaeological sites and are sure you’ll be in good hands with K. as your guide.
