Award-Winning Sachsenhausen Memorial Tour – A Profound Journey Through History
Sachsenhausen was the first purpose-built concentration camp, designed as a center of terror, persecution, and systematic murder. Initially, it imprisoned those the Nazis deemed racially, socially, or politically inferior.
Travel through the town of Oranienburg and uncover how the local population both supported and benefited from its existence. Your expert, licensed guide will lead you through key sites, including the punishment cells, infirmary, barracks, gas chamber, and crematoria. Hear powerful stories of resilience, courage, and solidarity among inmates in the face of unimaginable horror.
The tour also includes a visit to the Inspectorate of Camps—an unassuming yet critical building from which the Nazis controlled the entire concentration camp system across Europe.
A €3 per person donation supports the site's maintenance, and preservation and future restoration of the Sachsenhausen Memorial.

My dad and I had the privilege of having Raffaello as our guide at Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, and I can honestly say that he was extraordinary. *for context, 2 years ago we went on a WWII-specific tour of Poland and E Germany, visiting 3 camps (Auschwitz-Birkenau, Buchenwald and Dachau) - following that, this experience in 2025 to Sachsenhausen with Raffaello was hands down, the best. From the very beginning of the tour, Raffaello’s ability to explain the history even pre-WWI (yes, both WWI, and BEYOND to WWII) was both deeply informative and profoundly moving. He didn’t just share the facts—he painted a vivid picture of the everyday realities of life in the camp, making history come alive in a way that was both respectful and impactful. What stood out most was Raffaello’s sensitivity and depth in addressing not only the physical hardships endured by prisoners, but also the psychological warfare used by the Nazis. The way he explained how manipulation, fear, and propaganda shaped people’s behavior was eye-opening. He gently drew connections to the present, reminding us how vulnerable we humans still are to those same forces today. It wasn’t just a history lesson; it was a human lesson. Raffaello clearly has a gift for guiding with empathy, clarity, and passion. Everything he said was thoughtful, beautifully expressed, and left us reflecting long after the tour ended. I cannot recommend him enough to anyone visiting Sachsenhausen. He turned a difficult subject into an unforgettable and meaningful experience! Truly couldn’t recommend enough!!

Very educational and informative tour by Peter. Learned so much about the concentration camp and how prisoners (Jews, political prisoners and others) were used as slave labor, tortured, and murdered. Reading about the tragedies is one thing, but touring the concentration camp with our knowledgeable guide Peter was impactful. Really appreciated Peter’s assistance with getting train tickets and to the tour location inexpensively.

Our tour guide, Alberto, was truly spectacular-thoughtful and very knowledgeable about the camp-he could not have been better. However, train tickets are NOT included in this tour AND there is no bus service from the train station to the site (3/4 mile each way)…for those with ambulation difficulties, this can prove very challenging. These details are NOT well communicated in the tour description. That said, the tour itself was essential to all human beings-the world must never forget these atrocities.
