Award-Winning Sachsenhausen Memorial Tour – A Profound Journey Through History
Sachsenhausen was the first purpose-built concentration camp, designed as a center of terror, persecution, and systematic murder. Initially, it imprisoned those the Nazis deemed racially, socially, or politically inferior.
Travel through the town of Oranienburg and uncover how the local population both supported and benefited from its existence. Your expert, licensed guide will lead you through key sites, including the punishment cells, infirmary, barracks, gas chamber, and crematoria. Hear powerful stories of resilience, courage, and solidarity among inmates in the face of unimaginable horror.
The tour also includes a visit to the Inspectorate of Camps—an unassuming yet critical building from which the Nazis controlled the entire concentration camp system across Europe.
A €3 per person donation supports the site's maintenance, and preservation and future restoration of the Sachsenhausen Memorial.

I was a little reluctant to visit Sachsenhausen. I've never even managed to sit through the whole of Schindler's List, so visiting a camp was quite a challenge for me. We were very lucky in that we had an absolutely excellent guide, Hannah, whose extensive knowledge of the period between the first and second world wars and its politics really enhanced my understanding. The tour is not for the faint-hearted, but although it was harrowing in parts, Hannah managed the narrative with huge sensitivity. I cannot thank her enough and I learned a huge amount from the experience. I cannot say I actually enjoyed the experience, but I am very glad that I went and would recommend it to anybody visiting the area.

Our guide was incredible. Daniel was the most passionate and caring guide we ever saw. There was rain and he literally gave his umbrella and jacket to members of the group. He was so passionate about the tour and his subject. He was more interested than any participant! Him alone made the tour worth it!

From the beginning to the end, Scott ensured that everyone's needs were meet and everyone's questions were answered thoughtfully. He was immensely knowledgeable about the camp, German history, and world history as well as how history is intertwined with our present experiences. Scott is not only a student of history, he is an actor within it, recognizing how each of us shapes history through our choices, actions, and inactions. The tour was a highlight of our trip.
