Serious mountain biking in an incredible location. If you are looking for a serious mountain biking trip this is it. Phenomenal enduro style riding on a variety of world class trails. Not for the beginner mountain biker or faint of heart. Perfect for the serious rider looking to tackle something new. The riding, country, and guides were amazing. The food was okay.

Wow. This was awesome. One day of untamed trails in the beautiful mountains around Paro, dropping from 4,000m to the valley in one massive run. Then smoother and calmer single track around Thimphu to end a mountain bikers dream weekend. Organisation, rental bike and logistics were fantastic.

Let me share what I experienced there. When I arrived at Paro and preparing my bike, I found my dropper post didn't work and feel disappointed imagining I cannot use this when I decending. After consulting this issue with chief guide(SP) he removed it and tried to fix by next morning. Unfortunately, there was no replacement part he couldn't fix it. But he never gave up and try to find same size one from Bhutan MTB community then he finally found it ! I was really happy to continue my trip without any trouble, and route was also great! I visited many countries for MTB riding and I can say Bhutan is one no best place for MTB and riding in Bhutan is once in a lifetime event for me.

  • Mountain Biking in Bhutan - A Trip of a Lifetime

This was a bucket list trip for a long time and I finally got the chance to go in April 2025. Bhutan is truly stunning at every turn and the people, food, architecture and of course the mountain biking trails were truly memorable. The first couple of days were spent in Thimphu which was a great introduction to what was to come with a variety of what I would consider green rated trails which twisted and turned in the hills above. Day 3 was my personal favorite trail - the Madman trail which is perhaps the best trail i've ever ridden - 3 sections which a variety of terrain from rooty, rocky sections with drop offs to super fast and flowy sections towards the bottom. The forest scenery was simply sublime. I'd rate this a black for part 1 and 2 to blue at the bottom. The most challenging trails both physically and technically were saved to last with the incredible climb to the Tiger's nest and beyond followed by another amazing trail in the mountains of Paro. The Tiger's nest trail will really test any rider with 1500m of elevation gain up steep narrow trails. There was no chance to relax on the downhill as we had to navigate steep, exposed switchbacks but the experience was incredible. I'd say these were both black rated trails. Our final trails was the Gela trail, another 600m climb awaited us but along a relatively gentle trail through pine forest to approx 3500m before another amazing descent which was especially technical and fun towards the last few km. Each ride got progressively more difficult which stretched the group out but we have ST at the front for the quicker riders and SP at the back so there was no feeling of being under pressure from anyone and they were amazingly supportive. I'd recommend for any enduro / downhill enthusiast and anyone seeking an adventure. The organization throughout was seamless, the driver was very safe, friendly and attentive, the hotels all very comfortable and there was no way to go hungry with endless choices of dishes for each meal. The rest day was also great with a nice hike followed by some rafting. I'd highly recommend this trip if you're looking for a trip of a lifetime.

The TL;DR version of this review: Mountain biking with Bhutan Rides is an adventure like no other! If you're reading this, you should just do it! The trails are epic, the scenery is unreal, and the team is absolutely top-notch. Pelden and his crew know all sorts of hidden gems in Bhutan, from untouched routes to adrenaline-pumping descents. Whether you’re an intermediate or a more seasoned rider, they’ll craft a ride that’s as challenging as it is unforgettable. The guides—Pelden, SP, and ST—are legends. Amazing riders, full of cultural insights, and just plain fun to be around. SP had us cracking up one moment and enthralled with Bhutanese history the next. And the drivers who shuttled us around were great too. Pelden is so full of grace and kindness—he truly is an incredible ambassador for his country, which they are all so proud of (and they should be!). Our 12-day trip had it all: challenging climbs, incredible descents, and plenty of chances to soak in the absolutely breathtaking scenery. Off the bike, it’s all about excellent accommodation and great food that fuels the adventure. We even got the chance to sneak in some white-water rafting! Riding with Bhutan Rides is the kind of experience that I know will stick with me forever. If you get the chance, I couldn't recommend it more! It’s a once-in-a-lifetime ride you’ll never forget.

A last minute, 12 day trip with Bhutan rides left me wondering could I organise in time. Pelden and team made it completely hassle free, super-well organized and didn’t need much planning on my part other than pack bike & gear. Even that we had solid recommendations based around terrain, experience and weather. Pelden was outstanding to communicate with and from the off he and team made the Bhutan experience top class until we had to return to the stunning Paro airport. The trails were natural, interesting and on the whole bone-dry. From enduro style singletrack, technical rocks, roots and drops, to riding through endless switchbacks or rock wall canyons. Then there’s belting down loamy forest floors drifting bikes around the corners. So much variety and fun and some epic, epic descents. The team on arrival until we departed made the fullest and most considerate use of our time. Always moving to suit our pace, occasionally reminding of the sunset’s pace! From traveling to the next hand-picked hotel; never sterile, always a location and cultural delight, to a bike pickup or shuttle and on occasion an ice cold beer or coke at the ride end. We were a well-matched, mixed group and made to feel part of the family. The guides/mechanics became friends and very skilled taking care of riders and bikes, planning, unexpected trails or evening maintenance. Their riding standard both up and down and around the trail was fantastic with all our strong-riding group learning new skills. Food and variety of hotels was inspiring, with many local cuisine places managing to serve local dishes in a never-ending variety of flavors. There were some requirements from my side to alter plans during the trip. It was all done seamlessly with care and we continued to have an amazing adventure even with off-the cuff planning. Couldn’t ask for more. I’m figuring out how to go back and explore more with the team! Wholeheartedly recommended. There is no debate these guys are a world-class team supporting your trip of a lifetime. Don’t hesitate, just experience it with Bhutan rides.

This was truly an incredible mountain biking adventure and I recommend it to anyone who loves steep, technical, beautiful bike adventures. Pelden organized an incredible itinerary with lot of climbing and even more descending. Every day was fun, hard, and exhilarating. I am a solid intermediate rider and this was mostly advanced riding that I was able to tackle most of, albeit at a slower pace. These trails pushed me and made me a better rider. The guides, SP and ST, were incredible. Amazing riders and patient guides. SP provided most of our cultural info and he was just fantastic. I learned so much and just fell in love with Bhutan more and more each day. The drivers were also incredible. We shuttled to and from so many rides and most required 4x4 access. Well done! The accommodations were all beautiful and comfortable. Clean, warm, hot showers (mostly), great staff, wonderful food. And the lunch stops were delicious every time. We required a lot of food each day and always got what we needed. We had a few unexpected things happen and SP, ST, and Pelden could handle anything. They are an exceptional group and I feel so grateful to have united with them and spent time peddling around their beautiful country. The new standard has been set and it will be hard for any future trips in my life to meet it.

We recently had a 12 day all-mountain mountain bike trip with Bhutan Rides. Aside from the stunning beauty of the country, culture, and some of the best riding I”ve done, Bhutan Rides really exceeded all my expectations. Peldon and his team put together a riding itinerary that kept everyone smiling, but where they really excelled was in the execution. All the transportation, meals and accommodations were spot on, it was apparent how hard the team worked to make this happen. Yet at the same time they were flexible enough to adapt rides to all skill levels and to all the group’s requests throughout the trip, blending great riding with an intimate knowledge of the culture that makes Bhutan a really special place. I would not hesitate to book another trip with Bhutan Rides, and I hope to do so again.

Mountain biking with Bhutan Rides was an extraordinary experience. The terrain is world class, while the staff professional, courteous and skilled with all things trail, cycle and culture. Although the setting and staff are top notch (the staff are among the best riders I’ve witnessed), what sets Bhutan Rides apart from some competing tour companies in Bhutan is their knowledge of trails throughout the country that no one else rides. Pelden can assemble a diverse itinerary that will challenge even the most experienced riders into terrain that no one else in the world is riding, while still easily being able to cater to the intermediate. Pelden is graceful, gracious, fun and humble, and an absolutely lovely human being. I’ve been mountain biking for 35+ years and have been fortunate enough to visit some 60+ countries in my life. Riding with Bhutan Rides was among the best, if not the best trip I’ve ever taken. If you have the opportunity to travel with Bhutan Rides, don’t walk, RUN towards this opportunity without hesitation.

The mountain biking in Bhutan is super rad. I think I must have had the best guide/rider I've had the pleasure of riding with. Binesh was not only a great technical rider, he was a great joy to ride behind and be inspired by. Huge thanks to Pelden and team for putting this together. Oh, and the homestay experience for my last few days in Thimpu was incredible. It was truly unique, the food, drinks and experience was off the charts. I even got to meet the owners, to find out I know his brother from a meeting at the innovation forum. Bhutan rides ❤️
