What To Expect

Market Tour Visiting the market in Ecuador is a one-of-a-kind experience! You´ll discover the best smells, tastes, and colors of fruits, vegetables, and spices that will help you create the perfect Ecuadorian meal. Andres will take you on a tour of the Central Market and the surrounding area. Here you will meet the best specialty vendors, the stand that has the freshest vegetables, yesteryear meat vendors, the lady who always has the best fruits, the medicinal herb stand, the mote vendor, the flower girl and an exotic fruit juice stand. The experience starts off by shopping for fresh ingredients and local products, some of which you will not be able to find anywhere else in the world. Cooking Class At the Cooking Class you will meet the Chef, my best friend's mom who will teach you all the local secrets and will tell you the best stories of yesteryear Quito. You will make everything from scratch, chopping, dicing, and cooking like a true local. Time to Eat Once finished in the kitchen, the chef sets a beautiful table and all the hard work pays off. It´s time to enjoy your meal in a Colonial house in the heart of Old Town Quito. Highly recommended experience!

Andres picked up my husband and I at our hotel and first stop was the central market. We loved the experience of going through the market, learning about and tasting new fruits that we have never had. And on the drive Andres was very knowledgeable and could answer lots of questions about life in Quito. Then we went to the cooking location, where his wife Sylvie assisted Margola. The recipes they gave us all were with ingredients that we could get at home. I’m a cook and my husband is the eater, but he even enjoyed the class and it was just the two of us. Your food is really helpful and it was delicious, nothing spicy, and it was just an awesome travel experience. At the end of the class, Sylvie was going to escort us by Taxi back to our hotel. We asked to take the metro instead for the experience and that was a great end to the day. We walked through old town and picked up some great souvenirs on the way to the metro.

Our cooking class was everything we had hoped for, and more! Andre took us through the market where we saw the many vendors of fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs. We sampled some delicious examples of Ecuadorian fruits. Exotic to us ... and delicious. We then moved to the cooking class, where Silvia and Chef Magola explained to us the cooking traditions of Ecuador and guided us through the preparation of a delicious lunch. Simple, fresh ingredients and simple ( and surprisingly quick) cooking methods combined to create a wonderful and very healthy meal! We left with delicious memories and recipes to try at home. Thank you, Andres, Silvia and Chef Magola for creating such an exceptional experience for us!

We were picked up at our hotel, which we really appreciated, and were taken to the central market, where our guide (who spoke excellent English) showed us around and bought us delicious smoothies made from local fruits, prior to taking us to the cooking class. The class was in a charming part of the historic center, tucked into a very nice setting with a lovely courtyard. The ladies who taught it were very friendly, gracious, delightful to be with, and excellent cooks. The food we made was delicious! It was a lovely way to spend a half of a day!

Excellent experience with Andres, his wife, Silvia and their friend. They are very friendly and warm people and make the whole experience very personal. The market tour with Andres was most interesting, learning about their fruits, vegetables, legumes, herbs, poultry etc. The cooking experience was with 2 ladies in a lovely old house in the old town. While the experience is not that hands on (the ladies did the cooking, while we chopped a few things and observe), it was still very nice and cosy. The ladies chatted like friends throughout and we did learn a lot!

The cooking class was great. Two very warm and friendly chefs teach the class. We are so much food we had to skip dinner. The recipes were easily followed and we will recreate them at home. We all felt like we got the "bums rush" during the market tour. We were picked up late at our hotel and the the tour leader Andres was rushing to another tour. If not for that It would be a five star review but we felt short changed on the market tour
