What a way to spend the morning in Quito! Andres picked us up at our hotel at 9:30 am. We talked about the history of Quito as we drove to the market. At the market, Andres knows everyone. We sat at a table and drank fresh local juice while trying different fruits. We walked around the market and visited different stalls, and he bought ingredients for our cooking class. Andres dropped us off at Magdalena’s house for the cooking class. He left us with recommendations for places to eat and things to do in Quito. He even offered to let me play pickle ball with him and his friends. For the cooking class, Magdalena and Andres modified the menu since my niece is allergic to seafood. Instead of ceviche, we made an appetizer with beans and potatoes, vegetarian tamales, a potato soup and alcoholic cocktail. Magdalena is an absolute delight! She is sweet and funny and we had the best time cooking with her. If you want to learn more about Ecuadorean cuisine and learn from two wonderful people, I highly recommend you book this cooking class with Andres and Magdalena.

We had a wonderful experience with Andre visiting the local market and learning about the various fruits, vegtables and flowers grown locally in Quito before we arrived at the Cooking School. On the menu was local Quito favorites - National Canelazo Drink with sugar cane, Potato Soup with corn, Shrimp Ceviche, Tomato Tree desert with syrup and fruit. We were hands on learning how to make each of the recipes with qualified teachers and then we all enjoyed our feast together. A truly great way to introduce yourself to the culture and cuisine of Equador.

Andres picked up my husband and I at our hotel and first stop was the central market. We loved the experience of going through the market, learning about and tasting new fruits that we have never had. And on the drive Andres was very knowledgeable and could answer lots of questions about life in Quito. Then we went to the cooking location, where his wife Sylvie assisted Margola. The recipes they gave us all were with ingredients that we could get at home. I’m a cook and my husband is the eater, but he even enjoyed the class and it was just the two of us. Your food is really helpful and it was delicious, nothing spicy, and it was just an awesome travel experience. At the end of the class, Sylvie was going to escort us by Taxi back to our hotel. We asked to take the metro instead for the experience and that was a great end to the day. We walked through old town and picked up some great souvenirs on the way to the metro.

Our cooking class was everything we had hoped for, and more! Andre took us through the market where we saw the many vendors of fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs. We sampled some delicious examples of Ecuadorian fruits. Exotic to us ... and delicious. We then moved to the cooking class, where Silvia and Chef Magola explained to us the cooking traditions of Ecuador and guided us through the preparation of a delicious lunch. Simple, fresh ingredients and simple ( and surprisingly quick) cooking methods combined to create a wonderful and very healthy meal! We left with delicious memories and recipes to try at home. Thank you, Andres, Silvia and Chef Magola for creating such an exceptional experience for us!

We were picked up at our hotel, which we really appreciated, and were taken to the central market, where our guide (who spoke excellent English) showed us around and bought us delicious smoothies made from local fruits, prior to taking us to the cooking class. The class was in a charming part of the historic center, tucked into a very nice setting with a lovely courtyard. The ladies who taught it were very friendly, gracious, delightful to be with, and excellent cooks. The food we made was delicious! It was a lovely way to spend a half of a day!
