An enjoyable day out which included a great view of a tapir and a big group of coati. We were lucky to have an excellent guide, Alexandra, who as well as being super knowledgeable and friendly was great at steering us away from the busy sections of trail. The trails were easy walking, though it was the dry season - we covered about 5.5 miles. The day tour groups all stay in quite a small area, arrive and leave together, and converge on Sirena station for lunch, so even though it is limited to 100 tickets a day it does feel a little crowded at times. Arrived at low tide which meant a tricky walk to shore over large stones, regretted not having water sandals, and the boat ride was bumpy and wet! Worth it though.

This tour is a scam, includes 4h on an uncomfortable boat, busy picking up and on the way back releasing passengers, a waiting line at the checkpoint, another waiting line for looking at sleeping tapirs at the entrance, a bad lunch that takes 3/4 of an hour, so the remaining time for hiking is 2,5 hours. You walk the 1 km to the ranger station and back with hundreds of other scammed people. Unbelievable, this is by far the worst tour in Costa Rica!

We did a Full day tour (175$) that allows you to go first to Sirena Station in the morning and then to San Pedrillo station in the afternoon. The experience was absolutely stunning with a lot of different animals and vegetation (Tapir, Anteater, Sloth, Macaw, Frogs and a lot of other birds). Special thanks to Yazmir, our guide, thanks to whom we were even able to see the Puma around San Pedrillo station. The tour is very well organized by Casa Gitana Tours. Don’t forget to bring sandals or other waterproof shoes to get in and off the boat. 100% recommend this tour

Thanks for everything!

We love Costa Rica, and have had numerous fabulous wildlife encounters - but Corcovado was a great disappointment. I doubt we walked more than 1.5 km in 2-3 hours of our visit, and were in secondary rainforest the whole time. The most abundant species was Homo sapiens, and it felt like too many people were all squeezed into one small area. Considering how huge the National Park is, and how extensive the species list, we were all underwhelmed by the visit.

I'm really happy we went with Gitana Tours. I ran into them through another tour operator who recommended I talk to Jonathan of Gitana Tours. I would otherwise not have found them I guess, because their office is not situated as centrally in Drake Bay as many others. But as soon as I got Jonathan on the phone (mind that I speak Spanish so I can't judge how things would have gone if we'd have to do it in English) I felt helped and understood. We're traveling with two young boys, ages 2 and 4, so I needed some good information on if and how we could visit Corcovado National Park. He explained me the options and made me a deal. Only later I found out, when checking options with agencies located more centrally in Drake Bay, that he made me quite a good offer due to two things. Firstly, he charged our oldest son for a reduced price and didn't charge my youngest son at all. Other companies wanted to charge more like a grown up fee for my eldest. Secondly, he let us join a group of other tourist where many other agencies told us we could only visit Corcovado with a private guide. I spoke to some of those agencies and I actually understand they don't allow families with (young) kids in groups with other tourists as kids can be noisy and slow and ruin other tourists experience. Now I'm not going to say that my kids are angels, let alone that I will take credit for how they are (50% of how kids are is just a draw) but I was pretty sure that my kids would behave well enough not to disturb others in the group too much. Looking back I think I was right. We had to shush them a couple of times (pretty close to three tapirs with the risk of scaring them away for instance) and ask for help from group members once or twice with lifting kids in and out of the boat or into our backpacks, but I'm pretty sure people weren't bothered. So in the end it worked out really well for us to join a larger group and we payed significantly less than when having to hire a private guide. So if you're here in Drake Bay with your kids and want to have a great adventure (we saw sloths, four different species of monkeys, an ant eater, agutis, coatis, tapirs and lots of birds) consider going with Gitana Tours. Be mindful though that this is pretty much the only organization that lets you take kids in the larger group, so if you do, please make sure you consider if your kids are up for this and if you think you can manage them well enough. Otherwise, in the future no organisations might allow kids in the larger groups anymore. Have fun! It's a great experience, well worth the money and effort.

This was the most dissapointing tour in my life. Estación Sirena is overcrowded and they even run a tractor there, imagine what a reserve...Guide didn' t even bother to introduce himself, he was only interested in collecting money as soon as he saw us. During the tour guide said the sloths are constantly smiling because they are under the influence of something they eat. Made me wonder if everytjing he said was that innacurate. Asked him if they had poaching problem and he had no idea what it was. Mud on the trail was horrible at some places and made it dangerous to walk without proper shoes (no one informed us about this before the trip). Wouldn' t have gone there had I knew how it was.

Certainly my expectations were high and I did not get disappointed. We were fortunate that the Stefanny Guide showed us so much fauna, explained anecdotes and the interestingness of each species. All very safe, pleasant and well explained. But come back certainly. The boat very well. A tip bring some water sandals to get on and off the boat and for the food area.
