Oh my god. We are just back from our 3.5 week trip through all of Costa Rica, did about 6 night tours and 11 day tours including in places like Manuel Antonio and Corcovado overnight. Looking back, this tour was the best of the best, number 2 doesn't even come close. Even with Tracie herself absent (temporarily due to injury), her husband Gianfranco made the experience super memorable and worthwhile. He is a walking encyclopedia, and authored books on Costa Rican wildlife. Being an American native speaker, communication was flawless. They usually do the tour together, so I cannot even imagine how mind-blowing it would be if Tracie was there too. Wish you a swift recovery Tracie and thanks Gianfranco for a night my husband and son are still talking about, that started with a tapir! My husband is teaching his primary school class about the trapdoor spider now, which is his new obsession after you showed him one! Thanks for everything.

So cool! We saw lots of different spiders, frogs, scorpions, and other bugs. The guide was very knowledgeable and his passion was contagious. Wonderful experience.

We did many guided walks during our trip in Costa Rica, but this one was by far the best of them all. Tracie and Gianfranco have an immense knowledge of the critters of the night and are more than happy to share it with their guests during the tour. Every few meters they spot a new creature you would have simply walked by e.g. trap-door spiders, scorpions, tree fogs or even a bulldog bat hunting fish; and they tell you the most interesting stories about them. Their tour covers basically everything that moves around in the night, including ants, frogs and spiders - something that other tours would just ignore. After the tour we even got an e-mail with a list of spotted animals and extra information about them.

Tracie hurt her knee recently & wrote us apologetically the day before to let us know her husband Giancarlo, who had been leading these tours with her for twenty years, would be taking over w the help of an assistant fellow wildlife guide from the area. The pair did an excellent job, with the assistant going ahead to scope out finds in the dark while Giancarlo filled us in on the current find. It ended up being a fairly spider-heavy evening: I learned *so much* fascinating info about spiders and their various ways of catching prey that I had never known. I also appreciated that Giancarlo stressed info we *don’t know* yet because it hadn’t been studied (emphasizing the importance of research in a time when my home country is slashing funds and infrastructure for scientific research. We can only go on a tour like this because scientists have been studying ecosystems and their fauna, and this is so important if we want to understand this incredible planet around us. Fight for science and the endless wonder it gifts us! Regardless of my political aside here, it was clear these folks are incredibly knowledgeable and experienced.) I came away very happy having experienced the nocturnal side of the rainforest (we did the morning Corcovado tour that day too, due to time constraints, with an afternoon nap in between- a full day but it is possible if you are remotely in shape) which is a different world -and reminds you so much of all the things happening out there while we sleep. Besides spiders we saw and learned about bats, frogs, scorpions, crabs, arachnids, army and leaf cutter ants, found a hummingbird asleep in her nest. My teen son and I left feeling very happy we had come to Drake’s Bay and experienced the rainforest with this tour. PS Book early if at Xmas, I booked several months ahead and they had already sold out one of two nights we could join. We did bring headlamps with us but the tour has some if you forgot, don’t own or -in my case- suddenly won’t turn on. Honestly much of the tour i didn’t even have mine on because others have light.

Incredible experience. They were so knowledgeable and gave us such a depth of appreciation for all the little things hiding in plain sight. One of the most unique experiences on our trip to Costa Rica.

Such an amazing evening with Gianfranco and a nice small group of fellow travellers. I wouldn’t have put myself down as either a huge insect enthusiast or great on group tours but this was so fascinating. Saw lots od frogs, spiders, scorpions, the fishing bat. Full of really interesting facts and a good pace so everyone gets to see them all.

The night tour with Gianfranco in Drake Bay was phenomenal! Approximately every 3 meters he could show us frogs, spiders, insects, possums and other animals that we would never have discovered on our own and certainly not in the dark. He was also able to enthusiastically pass on detailed expertise and tell exciting stories about each animal. Gianfranco explains everything understandably, with a lot of passion and above all respect for nature. The tour was exciting, educational and over much too quickly. The organization in advance with detailed information on the process , meeting place and directions was great. Absolutely recommended for anyone who wants to visit Drake Bay and really experience the nature of Costa Rica! Thank you for this unique experience.

The night tour, this time with Gianfranco, was by far the standout experience of our entire three week Costa Rica trip. Gianfranco is one of the most knowledgeable, empathetic and passionate guides we have ever met. He strikes a rare and perfect balance between deep scientific expertise and clear, engaging explanations that make wildlife truly come alive. His enthusiasm and respect for nature are palpable and deeply inspiring. The tour delivered unforgettable encounters (yes, the tapir!) but what really made it exceptional was the quality of guiding. This is not just a tour – it’s an experience that stays with you. Wishing Tracie a speedy recovery – and to anyone visiting the Osa Peninsula: this night tour is an absolute must.
