A delightful introduction to Costa Rican cuisine, with our charming hostess Carolina teaching us to make bread, empanadas and pan dulce by hand.

Our family of six visited the farm for a bread making and empanada making class and we are so so happy that we did this. First, the view is unbeatable- so beautiful. The class was really fun, very easy and the food was delicious! Best of all though were the people. This tour is run by a family, they care very much about their farm and each other and it shows. This was a wonderful experience in Monteverde. They’ll arrange transport for you if needed.

I loved this experience so much! I went with my friend back in Oct and still thinking about what a great experience it was! Carolina was very attentive and knowledgeable, and we made so many delicious bread! We ended eating them over the next couple of days on our long bus journeys. The empanadas she taught us how to make were delicious too. The views while you’re cooking are just stunning, it really adds to the experience. We paid a little extra for transfers and the driver was very punctual and helpful too.

An absolutely magical place and experience! Got to learn how to make empanadas that were the best I’ve ever tasted and pan casero that were dangerously good! Carolina and Orlando’s love and passion for their family farm shows in everything they do and it’s impossible not to fall in love with this place. If you’re visiting Monteverde, don’t miss out on a really special experience.

We loved this cultural experience! We have three teenagers and it has been one the most favorite activities of our time here in Costa Rica, we walked away with a bag full of bread and empanadas! 10/10 would recommend, well worth 2 hours of your time to support this beautiful local family farm business!

My friend and I had a great time at this cooking class. Carolina is insightful, friendly and a delight to bake with. We also got to leave with HEAPS of bread. Would highly recommend supporting this local family run farm on your next visit to Monteverde.

Perfect morning making empanadas and typical Costa Rican bread with Carolina. Carolina taught us her grandmother’s recipes and we had fun mixing, kneading and eating the delicious products of our efforts! We will definitely be replicating the Empanadas for our family in California! Carolina is an amazing, wonderful host. She explained patiently and clearly each step of the process in great detail and excellent English. Carolina is young, entrepreneurial and enthusiastic but also completely genuine. It felt like we were baking with a friend. There were just the two of us this morning and most likely there will be fewer than 5 people learning together, so a truly personal experience. Also we booked the experience at 7 am for the same day at 10 am - so last minute decisions are fine! One last thing, the view from the reception area is majestic.

This was a great excursion! Couldn't ask for a better host. My daughter and I made empanadas and sweet bread. We brought back the bread rolls we made and shared them with the hotel staff and they agreed it was some of the best bread they had. Plus, it was nice to sit and talk about Costa Rican life. We learned so much. I highly encourage you to take advantage of this. Tip: Google the name of the farm for the best directions.

Beautiful experience and setting. The family hosting was so kind. Teen son even enjoyed it all. Bread and empanadas we made were delicious! Great conversation while we ate what we made and watched a beautiful sunset as we finished up. Could not have asked for a better cultural/authentic experience.

Everything was perfect for this visit. Orlando picked us up right on time at our hotel and was super friendly. The baking experience itself, led by his sister, Carolina (sp.) was fun, authentic, interactive, and ultimately really tasty. The excursion takes place on their family farm and the scenery from the covered cooking area is breathtaking. Once your bread is baked you eat together with a little drink (non-alcoholic) onsite. Definitely worth looking into if you are looking for something a little different in your trip to Monteverde. They are super nice people. Small gift shop with locally made products onsite as well. Highly recommend for families, families with kids, couples, friends, anyone!
