Hustai National Park
At 9 o'clock in the morning or earlier, your guide and driver will pick you up from your downtown Ulaanbaatar hotel and drive to Hustai National Park which is located approximately 95 kilometers (60 miles) west of Ulaanbaatar. You will travel on better conditioned asphalt roads for a couple of hours before reaching your destination. Along the way, see nomadic tents sprawling on beautiful landscape outside of Ulaanbaatar and get a first glimpse of nomadic lifestyle. After arriving at Hustai National Park, take your time to explore extraordinary scenic spots where Asian wild horses graze, which is a result of the conservation program reintroduced by a group from the Netherlands in the framework of an international project. Later, a simple lunch will be provided. After lunch by the park,, you will be transferred back to your Ulaanbaatar hotel where this loving day trip ends.

Lovely trip. You go out to the Hustai National Park which is beautiful. The horses are a bit far away to see with the naked eye so they park rangers have a mini telescope set up for you to view the horses. We also happened to get lucky because the Emperor of Japan was visiting which made the trip that much more special. The guide Hugo was very informative and fun to talk to. My only recommendation is that you maybe eat before or bring a lunch because the food at the national park isn’t the greatest.

We did nothing from the activity other than the car ride, seriously! The night before the guide Bachi Nyangar texted tried to push doing another horse riding. We declined and stuck with our itinerary. We specifically asked if any of the activity in the tour does not exist we will cancel and he said all is there. Morning he arrived, the car was awful, dirty and smelly (see pic). We got in and wife in the back refused to continue after few minutes. He was ok and drove back to his home and got his wife’s car (nicer and cleaner). We enjoyed chatting and forgot the issue. When we arrived to the park (12:30pm), it seemed the park was closed and he pressured the guard girl to open the gate (we didn’t understand what was said). It seemed the park was not open to the public or something. We watched movie about it and he came back and took us to the park main office and were told that because of rain etc the roads are destroyed and we will not see horses. Bachi explained that to see horses, need to leave at 4am, I asked why then the trip is scheduled at 9am to leave? The itinerary said having lunch at the park. We saw people having lunch and he just left and we followed. We thought we were going to the other activity of visiting a horseman house etc, but we went to lunch at a local place on the road (3pm). When asked where we are going after lunch he said hotel. When asked about the activity he said it is mistakenly and should be removed. We were shocked and asked him but we confirmed yesterday all activities why didn’t you tell. His honest response was because you said you will cancel otherwise. We got dropped at the hotel. Bachi knew it the night before that we will not see horses and the other activity does not exist, and still took us for the ride. This is the most expensive activity to do in UB for one day ($350/couple). I called TripAdvisor and requested refund and they are looking into it.

We waited in the lobby of our hotel when all the time, our driver/guide was just sitting in his vehicle across the street. The staff at the hotel assisted us in finding him. This was promised, "After lunch at the park, you will visit a local horseman family. There, you could experience their way of life, their culture, and traditions. A free trial of horseback riding is included", but not done. This tour should've started earlier, at 7am, considering the traffic in Ulaanbaatar. We had lunch at 3pm. In our opinion, this tour was a waste of time and money.

He just took me to see horse around 10 mins and back. It is ridiculous to spend 111$ plus 30$ ( the tour operator need if not he said I can cancel it but in case I cancel I can not get any refund by TripAdvisor

I cannot recommend this tour. There was poor communication all around as our driver did not speak any English and the guide just seemed to refuse to talk to us. We were left waiting in many places and told nothing about what was going on. Also, the best part of the tour was said to be the visit with the local ranch family but this part of the tour NEVER HAPPENED! Once the national park visit ended, we ate a bit of lunch and were told that our part of the tour was over but could continue to the next part (to sand dunes at the edge of the desert) for an additional fee. We felt cheated and underwhelmed. I only gave it two stars because of how much I do love being in the beautiful Mongolian countryside.

The guide was lovely. But let's be clear here at no point was it made to the paying customer you are paying for a long journey to the park to see absolutely nothing and to look at the horses through a telescope. Waste of money and time

I thought this trip would be spending the whole day in the park; instead we drove for 15 minutes, found a herd of horses and watched for half an hour, and then left. Grand total of less than an hour in the park. I also thought we were supposed to stop with a nomadic family to eat, but it was just a shop on the side of the road. Definitely not worth the price.

The road to get to the Park is rough. However, the driver knows his way around. It can be very hot on those roads (there is basically no tree for shade). Be sure to take sunscreen, a hat and a lot of water with you. With this trip, you will be able to see one of the unique Mongolian secrets, which are the last remaining wild horses in the world. I would do it again.

Bat was a great guide. He helped us see the horses up pretty close. Gave excellent information about Mongolia and the park. Food at Mongol family site was great as was meeting "grandma" the matron of the camp.

In this park there are various animals, among others, about 300 takhi or Prezwalski horses. They are horses with a genetic makeup, I am told, different from other horses and to avoid extinction they were imported. Anyway, it's always a good show to photograph them, at dusk, when they go to drink
