When we arrived at the cotopax parking lot, when it was very windy and rainy, I had been up the mountain with Pedro before I needed more time to go through the pedro junction, he chose a more easy bending mountain, but there was really too much wind and rain along the way, I went halfway and said to Pedro that I would not be able to continue to reach the base camp. So he left the keys for me and my husband, he continued to pursue the two couples who came back to the group. I asked Pedro Cotopaxi if the wind had been so strong for a long time, and he said it would be better during the dry season. Although this time was not able to arrive, it was also a good experience.

Fabulous day at Cotopaxi with our very knowledgable guide Pedro. We made it to base camp and although the snowy peak remained hidden we had a fab time and a traditional Ecuadorian lunch

Our guide, Ricky, picked us up promptly at the meeting time in our hotel lobby. We did pay an extra fee to be picked up since we were staying near the airport and not directly in Quito. This was explained beforehand though and made the process easier than figuring out Uber/taxi into the city. Ricky safely navigated us through traffic to get out of Quito. He also gave us good information about Ecuador, Quito, and Cotopaxi along the way. Sadly, the weather was not cooperating today for our journey, so we didn't see the full beautiful volcano seen in photos. Ricky did his best to point out the glacier parts that we could see. He was also very patient on our way up when I needed to make a few stops to catch my breath. Reaching the refuge felt like a real accomplishment. We also got to support local businesses by enjoying some coca tea before the climb and lunch at a cute roadside restaurant afterwards. This place has farm animals, and we even got to feed the llamas carrots.
