The Alhambra
On a rocky hill that is difficult to access, on the banks of the River Darro, protected by mountains and surrounded by woods, among the oldest quarters in the city, the Alhambra rises up like an imposing castle with reddish tones in its ramparts that prevent the outside world from seeing the delicate beauty they enclose. Originally designed as a military area, the Alhambra became the residence of royalty and of the court of Granada in the middle of the thirteenth century, after the establishment of the Nasrid kingdom and the construction of the first palace, by the founder King Mohammed ibn Yusuf Ben Nasr, better known as Alhamar. The fortress became a citadel with high ramparts and defensive towers, which house two main areas: the military area, or Alcazaba, the barracks of the royal guard, and the medina or court city, the location of the famous Nasrid Palaces and the remains of the houses of noblemen and plebeians who lived there.
Alcazaba
The Alcazaba plainly served a military function. The entrance to the Alcazaba was at the foot of the Tower of Homage . At the base of the tower is a slight slope. A simple L-shaped walkway keeps the main gate from being seen from the outside.

Extremely boring without tickets to visit Alcazaba, Nasrid Palaces, Nasrid Palaces·。 Spend a lot of time to the town and come back to the meeting point

We were 40 on a coach, 13 hour round trip. 2 hours into trip we were informed that 10+ of us were not going into the key site the ALHAMBRA. we had been sold tickets wilfully misleading to visit the “surrounds” As in , visit Disneyland to sit in the parking lot or the Guinness brewery in Dublin to look at it from outside This is a regular scam and wilful con,a waste of money and even worse a waste of a days vacation. Some of us pleaded our case at the Alhambra customer service, to no avail. They had our Passport details that was required at time of the “No cancel” booking via Viator. Avoid at all costs, the small print is deliberately misleading. waste of a days vacation.

The Alhambra was to be the pinnacle of our Spain visit which unfortunately it was not. There was much communication breakdown initially and guides showing up late to the meeting point. As the trip progressed things got smoother but still confusing at times. A note - DO NOT SHOW UP AT THE ALHAMBRA WITHOUT YOUR ORIGINAL PASSPORT !!!. This was not clearly disclosed in Viator online info packet and we nearly got burned as we had copies. The state officials were understanding and made accommodations, but our on-site guide was very disagreeable about this as he had to wait several minutes for us to meet with officials. The Alhambra was fantastic and overall this was still a worthwhile excursion. Just be prepared for walking, crowds, and confusion.

Very good visit to the Alhambra. Our Alan guide gave us a lot of interesting information, in a fluid and entertaining way. Keeping the perfect pace to appreciate the tour and take photos to what we were interested in

October 21st 2025. Day tour to Granada and Alhambra from Seville. Like 10+ others on this coach tour of 40+ we booked for the Alhambra trip. 13 hours round trip on a coach from Seville. For the 10+ it was a complete farce and con. The tour had only tickets for 30 approx to actually visit the Alhambra, so 30 on the coach of 40+ had entry, and 10+ of us did not. It's in the evasive small print, and it is wilfully misleading. To be clear at 8:24 pm on the previous evening a message arrived confirming our meeting point(s). To be clear this stated ( on review) that our trip excluded the actual Alhambra. I was in the middle of a Tapas and Wine Tour and missed this fundamental and vital detail until on the coach the following day. I read it quickly as a simple confirmation of pick up points. Regardless this was a No Refund tour from the point of booking. We were not aware or informed until we were on the bus 2 hours en-route that we and others were not visiting the Alhambra, if I had known I would never have wasted a day to walk around the underwhelming outside of Alhambra. At time of online booking it was 100% No Refund, which was unusual for Viator. I know why now. Also I was asked for our Passport details which we provided, which led me to believe this was security confirmation for entry. We went to the customer service desk at Alhambra as our Tour Guide simply disappeared. The Customer Service amazingly confirmed that they had our Passport details even though we are not entering the site as it was fully booked. This just gets better. This is a serious breach of GDPR that will be dealt with separately, I have documented proof from the Alhambra customer service of this as fact. For information, I am a professional Tour Guide in Ireland. My regular tours to Guinness are not to stand outside and wander round the surrounds, but that is exactly what we and others on the trip were miss-sold. A trip to Disneyland would not mean sitting in the Car Lot for the day after a 13 hour round trip being mis-sold sold as a day trip to Disneyland. When I take a flight to another city I fundamentally expect it to land me at said airport, not to merely fly over as I am booked to visit the "surrounds". The Tour Guide on this coach Petra Meier says the mis-selling of the Alhambra tour is a regular enough issue for her to deal with. She says "all the Tour companies are at it" I will now pursue Viator for a full refund. Unfortunately I cannot clam for the consequential costs of a full wasted day out of a 5 day holiday. And I will ask Viator to explain why our Passport details for a visit we were excluded from, this is an EU GDPR breach that is also a serious concern. This is clearly a long and angry review, but it was a long and wasted day. I don't get conned very often, but this was a bare faced humdinger. The trip was willfully misrepresented and mis-sold. I believe Viator sold this product in good faith, that the local Tour Company Naturanda Turismo wilfully and deliberately mislead them. Are the 10+ tourists who like had a wasted and frankly underwhelming experience all sloppy in the detail? NO, we were mis-sold and mislead, please don't get caught the same way. This matter as you may suspect will be pursued directly with Viator, who in fairness are normally very good and who I use on a regular basis. The 10+ fellow travelers who also were extremely upset and not getting entry into the Alhambra as sold were mainly also booked via Viator. I have no doubt that they will be making similar complaints and request for full refund. Don't be caught, don't be conned. Don't waste your valuable vacation time.

WATCH OUT! we were ripped off! Some passengers did not have tickets for the Alahambra, even though they had asked us for passport details and in the email appeared a button to download tickets. When we wanted to take them down the koche before the excursion they would not go down and there we did not know that we had no entrance. The same thing happened to several passengers. A lost day, practically to make a long round trip by bus to waste time.

This tour is a must do. Alhambra is beautiful and has so much history. Petra, our guide at the Albaicín, was so lively and loud but speaks very good English. The good thing about the tour was they split us into 2 groups, English and Spanish, when we got to Alhambra. Our guide, Fernando knew so much about the history and culture of Alhambra. He answered every question and he was a little funny too. It was a lot of walking on uneven surfaces but it was so worth it.
