Archaeological Ensemble of Italica
Visit Italica, located just 15 minutes from Seville, on a 4-hour guided tour. The first authentically Roman city in Spain was founded in 206 B.C. by Roman General Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus and was the birthplace of future Roman emperors Trajan and Hadrian. Take a walk along the old streets of the Archaeological Ensemble of Italica and explore the ruins of the houses and public buildings. See the amphitheater that had a seating capacity of 25,000 and was the third-largest in the Roman Empire. Admire the mosaic floors, the Traianeum, the statues of Diana, Venus, and Trajan, and the public baths. See the partially reconstructed Roman theater in Santiponce.

The roads are windy and the bus sways a lot so if you are prone to motion sickness it can be an issue. We left the tour at Alvia and returned via train. You are a bit rushed through Sagovia and Alvia. Leaving the tour allowed us to spend several hours in Alvia walking the walls.

Fascinating to see Italica and learn some of its history. Beware this tour is not as advertised. It is not 4hrs in Italica. You get about 2 hrs. The rest is travelling there and back plus a 30 minute stop off at a nearby monastery which is not advertised in this write up. There is another tour company who does advertise the monastery and Italica. However I specifically chose this tour because it didn't go to the monastery. I think there are 2 tour companies and they joined the tours together so we had to go to the monastery whether we liked it or not. Very poor. Tour guide wasn't the greatest either. He gave more information about Spain in general rather than the actual city of Italica

Great experience on a HOT day. Picked up in Seville and went outside of town about 20 minutes. Spent about 2 hrs walking around the ancient Roman ruins learning from a great very knowledgeable tour guide. After the tour had about 20-30 minutes to visit the little restaurant across the street to cool down, get some drinks and they had ice cream too. Then off to another short stop to see a Monastery. Spent about 30 minutes there and then back to Seville. It was great learning about Italica as it was the civilization way before the area of Sevilla.

Very well organized, interesting ruins and great guides. Tour moved along seamlessly, time to look at the ruins but not to waste time. A great four hours.
