Join us on an exhilarating Super Jeep adventure from Vík í Mýrdal to explore the spectacular Katla Ice Cave, on the mighty Mýrdalsjökull glacier. This glacier is one of Iceland’s most famous, and from it flows the powerful Kötlujökull glacier, named after the legendary Katla volcano.
Over time, this massive glacier has slowly crept down the volcanic slopes, carving out some of Iceland’s most awe-inspiring natural ice caves. On the glacier you’ll witness a dramatic fusion of crystal-blue ice and deep-black volcanic ash—a surreal contrast that feels straight out of a fantasy film.
Led by experienced local guides in a specially modified Super Jeep, this off-the-beaten-path journey promises unforgettable views, fascinating geology, and one of the most unique photo ops Iceland has to offer. You’ll understand the magic the moment you step on the ice.

Our guide will meet you at the parking lot behind the Ice Cave Bistro in Vík - facing the ocean. From here we will take a modified super jeep off-road up to Kötlujökull glacier to explore the great Katla Ice Cave.
You will hike on the Mýrdalsjökull glacier and witness the amazing blue and black ice. Please note: Ice caves are natural formations that change constantly due to shifting weather conditions and seasonal elements like temperature, sunlight, and precipitation. As a result, the cave's appearance may differ from the photos shown. For each tour, we visit the best accessible naturally formed ice cave available, chosen based on current conditions and safety considerations. These changes are entirely at the discretion of nature, making every visit a unique experience.

Excellent experience and knowledgeable guide. He was funny and made the shuttle to the glacier memorable. The winter views of the cave are breathtaking and definitely worth it.

This is such a fun and unique experience! The scenery is unbelievable and when else are you going to visit a natural ice cave and drink fresh glacial water? Leiver was the best tour guide...10/10. His expertise with off roading on the way to the glacier and with exploring the ice cave is unparalleled. He knows it like the back of his hand. He wanted us to have the best experience and we did.

It was a fun time! The super jeep was bumpy but kind of a blast. I did not expect the difficulty and precariousness of the hike to the ice cave. The cave itself is small but it was still really cool. Our guide was amazing!

We loved our tour of the Katla ice cave! The cave was a little smaller than expected but reasonable in October. Our kids loved hiking up to the cave and across the glacier. Alex was absolutely phenomenal and so great with our kids; we all absolutely adored him. He was a wealth of knowledge and had so many interesting things to share about Iceland and Katla. We felt so lucky and grateful to have him as our guide! Would definitely recommend.

Our guide was great, but the ride out there is alot rougher than I expected it to be. I thoroughly enjoyed the ice cave, but my husband and our friends were hoping it would be larger. Maybe because we went in September and it was warm that the pictures are not as spectacular as the photos on the ad. I would recommend it in the winter, spring, or early summer. However, I got to touch a glacier :-)

Highlight of our trip. The pickup and drop off were smooth. We had a 13yo, 10yo, and 6yo with us and it felt safe and well-done.

Sylvester our guide was awesome even took us on a little side trip where they shot some game of thrones scenes. He even pulled over so we could all get out and look at an arctic fox he saw.

We took the tour on October 2nd. For the price, and prior participant reviews, I had high hope for this tour... 1. the 'super-jeep' (a height-retro fitted 12-person van) was OLD ; bench seats cushion were worn; sitting on the side of the last row, I sat 'slanted'. 2. our tour guide was a very nice young guy. However, he was either very new to the job, or he was just not a person of words. Many online reviewers mention they learned a lot about glaciers. We hardly had 4-5 'mentions' about area we drove by or about glaciers. 3. Took about 30 mins drive to the location, another 20-30 min walking/hiking up to the 'cave'. Our guide took photos for all of us inside the very small ice cave which we lingered for 15-20 minutes. 4. I asked 2 questions; hoping the guide/driver would elaborate but received short answers. 5. On our way back, the van made clinking sound, so the driver/guide stopped to investigate. He decided to wait for the other van's driver/guide (who was a very talkative and seemed more experience) Our van was okay (after whatever the other guide did) and we drove back. Sign up for early tour. Saw 2-3 tours came in as we were leaving. Didn't feel it's worth the money. I found out later that same day when we went to Sólheimajökull Glacier that I could've spent about the same amount for a 3-4 hour glacier walk on Sólheimajökull.
