  • Tour Guide was really Amazing

We went at the end of May which is very dry. So many of the homes were not “floating” and was actually dry and very much on land. Some may say that defeats the point, but it was very interesting to see the village and the life in the village during the dry season. Life changes and the landscape changes during this time. Our guide “Mr. T” was really informative which gave us a chance to really learn about the village life and the impacts that various social economic factors have on life in the village vs. the city. If you want to see the village when it is “floating” it is better to see it after August when the rains have come in and everything is nice and green. We did get to ride in the boat to really floating house (kept afloat by the massive bundles of bamboo tied to it) in the middle of the huge lake and watched the some of the villagers setting up fishing traps in the water. If we get the chance we will definitely do this again during/right after the rainy season so we can see the comparison and the change in the lifestyle during the wet times.

The floating village is a fantastic sight seeing how the people live on the water when the lake is flooded and live theirs lives by fishing in the lake. The guide was very informative and explained that the village during the dry season isn't flooded and the villagers then are able to grow crops to make a living instead of fishing. We were taken around the narrow areas in an even smaller boat and saw close up how the people lived. A fascinating trip. We booked the trip in the morning and were fortunate that only a small number of visitors were there at that time as the afternoons are much busier. So if you want to see the village with less tourists the morning is the best time.
