It is a beautiful ride up the mountain around and back. It was a little bit scary because the horses walk on the edge of the path on the side of the mountain that is looming over the cliffs. It would’ve been great if the saddles and the foot holds of the stirrups were secured before each writer went out. Several of us had problems with the stirrups… even the experienced ones of us weren’t as comfortable riding at those heights. The guides and the people there working were super kind, friendly, and lovely…. It did, however, seem a bit understaffed. The horses were beautiful and cared for. The Hollywood sign was not quite as close as I thought it was going to be, but it was still spectacular.

Highly recommend doing this excursion if you’re in the LA area. The staff was nice and knowledgeable and the horses are gentle. A couple things to note: 1. If you are reserving a 9a horseback ride, the ranch opens at 8:30a. This is important to keep in mind if you’re catching ride-share (Lyft, Uber, or a taxi). 2. The parking area that is provided beyond the gate is small and limited. 3. Bags ( purses, waist pouches, book bags, etc.) can’t be worn while riding the horses. Be sure to wear a shirt with a pocket or pants with side pockets to hold your phone and other items (back pants pockets don’t count and work because once you sit in the saddle, your phone will be pushed out). If you bring a bag, you’ll have to either leave it in your car or leave it in the front office with the staff. Enjoy!

This would have been rated higher if the saddle on my horse had not been broken and loose. The staff seemed overwhelmed by the number of patrons and I think safety checks were not up to standards. The ride was beautiful but it felt rushed. The trail guide was very nice.

I arrived at the ranch at 8:26 for the 9am trail start time (trip advisor says to arrive 30 minutes early) - , I was dropped off by an uber at the gates and walked uphill to the ranch (quite steep!) I was told that they weren’t technically open yet , but to have a seat by the office where I met the dogs of the ranch. Bags and belongings were kept in the office which was a plus. Me and two others set off around 9am ish. It took a while to become used to Western Style riding as it is quite different to English style like I am used to. The tour lasted an hour and took us around the Hollywood sign and hills trails. The views were amazing and the horses very well behaved, with many opportunities for photos and the guide offering to record us. My only comment would be that there wasn’t much conversation or information given from the tour guide whilst on the tour - maybe some information on the area, nature and views would have been nice as most conversations about the ranch / previous tours etc fell a little flat and the tour was mostly silent. Overall - really enjoyed myself and would do this again
