On this historical tour from Lisbon, spend a lovely day in the charming Portuguese villages of Constância and Tomar, and discover the history of the Knights Templar, a Christian military order that played a role in the great battles of Europe during the Middle Ages.
Visit Almourol Castle, built by the Knights Templar, and the Convent of Christ, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former Templar stronghold. This small-group tour is limited to eight people, ensuring a personalised and valuable experience with your guide.

Pricing is according to the number of travellers - not age. There's two set of prices: 1 to 4 and 5 to 8 people. However, if there's children in the group please note that they occupy a seat.
Infant seats are available on request if advised at time of booking. Please state their age so we can arrange them accordingly.
A moderate amount of walking is involved.
English, Spanish and Portuguese are available all year round. French, Italian, Russian and Romanian ONLY ON REQUEST (according to availability).
Pick-up & drop-off at your hotel only in certain areas of the city (center). Please note that you may have to walk a short distance from your accommodation to be picked up.
Maximum of 8 persons per vehicle.
Boat ride is subject to favourable weather conditions. If cancelled due to poor weather, you will be given an alternative.
We are not responsible for any traffic congestion in the city, resulting from cultural, sport and religious events, or even demonstrations / strikes, etc. However we will always offer alternatives to avoid these situations; one of them is to change the pick-up and drop-off locations. Unfortunately, this may be transmitted without prior notice.
Please contact the company at least 24 hours before the activity for exact pick-up location and time (normally between 08:00 AM to 08:45 AM).

What To Expect
Castelo de Almourol
We start this awesome medieval journey towards Almourol Castle, one of Portugal’s trademarks and most famous ‘postcards’ in the country. Erected 18m (60 ft) above sea level this small granite island has 310m (1.000 ft) long by 75m (245 ft) wide in the middle of the Tagus River waterway.
Constancia
Afterwards we continue to Constância, a small charming village where Luis de Camões (one of the most famous Portuguese poets) lived and used to write some of his lyrical poems until we reach Tomar.

5.00A highly recommended tour. We visited Tomar Castle and Almourol Castle with our guide Nuno, very friendly and gentle. With very good predisposition to meet our needs. Always ready to explain in detail the places we visited and to answer those questions we asked. He also advised us on places to eat: more expensive/cheaper and more traditional versus more modern and/or international cuisine. Nice detail. Ignacio.

5.00It was a very nice day. The castle is in a secluded location and is not easily accessible. Taking is easier to access from Lisbon but the explanations of the guide were very interesting.

5.00This was an awesome tour and probably the most interesting of our stay in Portugal Alex is the most knowledgeable guide we about Templar history and lore. I felt I should get a college credit so interesting Also found a great restaurant run by a young Portuguese couple, Tasquinha da Mitas. Incredible food at low mid price 5* I highly recommend CoolTours to Tomar If all their tours meet the high standard that Alex set They are the best in Lisbon
This is the BEST way to visit Tomar!

5.00I had the best day with our tour group and our amazing, passionate, and experienced guide Rui. I was in Portugal in 2022 and all of the tours to Tomar were sold out. After waiting three years I felt lucky to finally go see this unique historical site. Our tour guide Rui is clearly very passionate about Portugal and its history. He was also extremely passionate about making sure we all had a great day and a unique stay while in Lisbon overall. He went above and beyond for the entire tour, including taking amazing pictures for everyone and helping us order lunch. I can confirm this company and their guides are top notch compared to tours I have experienced elsewhere. Can not recommend enough!

5.00We visited Tomar with our guide, Roj, and had an amazing experience. Roj was extremely likable, friendly, and funny. We laughed a lot and had so much fun throughout the tour. He even treated us to some delicious local pastries! Beyond his great personality, Roj was also very knowledgeable and explained everything clearly and engagingly.
