Our adventure begins with a hike to the iconic hermitage of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. Climb 241 steps surrounded by dramatic cliffs, the sea, and the wind, leading you to breathtaking views. Famously known as Dragonstone in Game of Thrones, this location is as magical in real life as it is on screen.
After the hike, we will head to the picturesque fishing village of Mundaka. Located along the west bank of the Urdaibai River estuary, this charming town uniquely blends the modern vibe of surfers with the timeless traditions of Basque fishermen. We’ll make a short stop here for a well-deserved lunch (not included).
Our journey concludes in Gernika, a place rich in Basque history. Visit the legendary Tree of Gernika, a symbol of liberty, and explore the town’s emotional past, including the tragic bombing in 1937. Along the way, we will also see the famous mural of Picasso’s Guernica.
Join us for a day of nature, history, and culture that you’ll never forget!

It was a great trip - a good amount of time in each place, and Paul was a wonderfully friendly and well-informed guide - truly a local expert! The three places we visited formed nice contrasts - the dramatic setting of Gaztelugatxe, the pretty village and estuary of Mundaka, and the sad history of Gernika - to make up a very good day. Paul was careful to make sure we knew that a steep walk was ahead of us for Gaztelugatxe (not an issue for either of us, but we appreciated the care he was showing) - the views were stunning. A choice of two restaurants in Mundaka for a light lunch, and lovely food at the one we chose, with a terrace table by the harbour...
