Discover eastern São Miguel on a relaxed small-group van tour, combining volcanic landscapes, scenic coastal roads, and lush nature.
Depart from Ponta Delgada and travel along the south coast, passing beaches and the historic town of Vila Franca do Campo, before continuing to Furnas. Explore one of the island’s most fascinating geothermal areas, with steaming fumaroles, bubbling mud pools, naturally carbonated mineral waters, and hot springs. You may also choose to relax in the iron-rich thermal pools of Terra Nostra Park (entrance fee not included).
Enjoy a traditional Azorean lunch featuring cozido, slow-cooked underground using volcanic heat, with a drink, dessert, and coffee included.
After lunch, enjoy panoramic views from the Furnas volcanic caldera, then explore waterfalls and walking paths in a lush natural park. Continue through the Nordeste region, known for its dramatic cliffs and coastal scenery, before returning to Ponta Delgada along the scenic north coast.

Nossa Senhora da Paz
Start the tour at Nossa Senhora da Paz, a hilltop chapel overlooking Vila Franca do Campo. Enjoy panoramic views over the town, the Atlantic Ocean, and the iconic Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo, a volcanic islet just offshore.
Caldeira das Furnas
Explore the geothermal fields of Furnas, where volcanic activity is visible through steaming fumaroles, bubbling mud pools, and hot springs. Taste naturally carbonated mineral waters and experience the island’s volcanic energy up close.

5.00Amazing! We visited on our honeymoon and did not rent a car. Staying in the center of Ponta Delgada and doing this tour and the west tour made us feel like we still experienced the whole island! Our tour guide Marcio was so friendly and knowledgeable. The experience was so worth it, beautiful views! And amazing food!!

5.00One of the best experiences of our Caribbean cruise. On our crossing of the Atlantic from Europe to the Caribbean, we had the absolute pleasure of visiting Sao Miguel. Our host Gonçalo was the perfect ambassador, his knowledge and experience combined with an incredible pride for his home island, made for an unforgettable experience. After disembarking our ship we (my girlfriend myself and our two Canadian friends) where underway in literally minutes, no waiting, queues or hassle. Beautiful viewpoints, photo opportunities, lake furnas, the amazingly refreshing hot springs of Poca de Dona Beija (highly recommended) and the waterfall at Ribeira dos Caldeiroes made for an amazing day! Probs again for Gonçalo who was a fantastic host. Not only did his love for the Azores rub off on us, his English was also impeccable; often joining in when we bantered with our Canadian friends about their ‘exclusive accommodation aboard our ship’ This was a full day excursion. Pick up from the cruise terminal and back to the ship was approximately 8 hours. 10/10 would absolutely recommend!

5.00Joao was absolutely wonderful! We had such a fun filled and informative day. Rain or shine this man who grew up here makes this place come alive with stories, music, food, wine and a perfectly curated tour. It was a terrific adventure.

5.00If you have any hesitation about booking this tour, just do it. I had the most amazing time with our guide Daniel, who was so cool, knew everything about the island, and made the whole day an incredible experience. The tour was packed with so many sites, it was the entire day so you absolutely get your money's worth, and since we had a small group it was quite flexible. I'm not a big reviewer but felt quite compelled to write this as my thanks. I could not be more satisfied. Thank you Daniel, and to Pure Azores for making my last day in Sao Miguel so special.

5.00This excursion is a full day exploring the East side of the island! You get to see so many amazingly gorgeous areas! This experience was AMAZING! João was literally the best guide! He was extremely knowledgeable, funny (even with some cheesy dad jokes), and an unexpected surprise, he’s a great photographer! He made sure that our group was involved and informed. 5.00If you are lucky I hope you get João as your guide. He is so friendly and knowledgeable. But more importantly he drives very smoothly. I usually get motion sickness but didn’t feel sick once while on the tour. We stopped at so many beautiful places (and every stop had a restroom). I only got to do one tour on my trip but glad it was this one. I loved the waterfalls and garden stops. Everything was timed well. Never felt rushed. Early December is a quiet time and we got a nice sunny day.
