National Palace of Pena
Visit to the Pena Palace interior and Park (select ticket option ). The Pena Palace is one of the best representations of 19th century Romanticism in Europe. Being the second-highest point in the Serra de Sintra (over 500m above sea level), it will amaze you with its unique architecture and spectacular views. King Ferdinand II - the king-artist - fell in love with Sintra, and following the purchase of the property, decided to build a unique castle and park, with 500 plant species from all corners of the world. The palace incorporates Manueline and Moorish architectural influences, that together will give you an atmosphere of “a thousand and one nights.”. An unforgettable experience (see ticket options).
Centro Historico de Sintra
In the center of Sintra you can either stay in the village, view the National Palace or walk to visit Regaleira (tickets not included). Also, a great option is to stay, and enjoy the wonders of this beautiful medieval little town, walking the narrow streets, feel the local atmosphere and then grab a coffee and try local pastry "Travesseiro".

The trip to Pena was canceled, due to a washed out road, but we visited an alternative site. Beach town drive was very scenic, and lunch options there plentiful. Our driver/guide, David, was a fantastic wealth of knowledge on almost any subject, and I would highly recommend him for any tour here.

Pedro was very excited about the history of Portugal. He made a rainy day enjoyable. You need to wear sneakers for walking around the towns and through palaces and castles.

This tour was really great! The tour guide, Filipe, was friendly and very informative. The tour started very early, but it was so worth it. We got there before most people, and he gave a tour around Sintra before we got to the palace. Our tour was in February, after some landslides, so we couldn't see Pena Palace. Although that was unfortunate, I think we actually ended up getting a better tour of the Sintra National Palace because Filipe was able to give us a personal tour inside. There was definitely enough time in each location if that's something you are considering. Maybe some more time in Cabo de Roca though, to really take in the views. The tour was very organized as well. I also did another tour to Nazare and Obidos, and I think that Sintra, Cabo de Roca, and Cascais were much more interesting locations overall.

Despite the rainy conditions this was an incredible experience. All thanks to Pedro! Even though the roads to Pena Palace were closed due to recent storms, we were given the alternative of exploring the National Palace which had an amazing amount of history to discover. Pedro made it easy to add on the palace last minute as we had not originally included it in our purchase of the tour. Same for Regaleira. It says it’s an optional add on, make sure you go!! It’s worth seeing!
