• Misleading Payment Policy and Rude Service Ruined the Experience

  The till downstairs has a large sticker on the back stating, “We accept Mastercard.” However, when I attempted to pay, I was informed that card payments were not accepted. While I have no issue with this policy, there was no prior warning in any communication. I approached the French lady downstairs (who I believe is the manager) to provide feedback and pointed out the misleading sign. Unfortunately, she was extremely rude, insisting it was my fault for not asking beforehand. To make matters worse, I then had to pay an additional $5 to withdraw cash from an ATM. This completely soured the experience, especially as it was we were celebrating a birthday.

  We embarked on a sunset cruise of the Mekong, arranged by our tour operator, Abercrombie and Kent. The setting was potentially lovely; sunset while on the historic river could have been a lovely experience. Could have been. The operator promised A&K that our group of 15 would have been on the front of the boat. It broke its promise, relegating us to the back, in favour of walk-ones. Denied of lovely breezes, we instead had inhaled diesel fumes. We were promised Tapas. It consisted of semi-stale slices of baguette with unknown substances. I got mild food poisoning. Members of our group were billed extra for beer. Don’t. Just don’t. You’ll regret it.

  Thanks to Geraldine and Jean-Pierre for their Great Welcoming! Beautiful evening on cruise ET at the dock 🍾 A first experience to do again soon I hope! Good to know: during this exceptional period and which requires a little adaptation, the boat stays at the dock after the cruise of 5pm-6.30pm and the bar and restaurant are open for a beer or a full meal, too nice to change and get some fresh air! The stuffed clams are a killing! I also believe they organize private parties, the top for a birthday or work night. In any case, I know where I am taking my next visitors from Europe to introduce them to one of the most beautiful ways to enjoy Phnom Penh.

  I had the opportunity to participate in the sunset cruise with Jean Pierre and Géraldine last January. I had a really great time! The prices asked are really worth it, especially if you take the "Phnom Penh Heritage Tour" package. Another way to discover Phnom Penh, far from the noise and traffic.

  This is by far the most confusing trip for me. I booked two tickets for a cruise with Kanika Boat thinking that I could enjoy a peaceful and wonderful sunset on the River Tonle Sap and River Mekong but it all went down hill from the start. After I had sat down, I was presented with a Menu and knowing that some Snacks and Drinks are complimentary, I wanted to order. However the first staff who attended me looked very confused with my ticket from TripAdvisor. She could not ascertain what package I have purchased for. After she excused herself to ask her higher up for clarification unfortunately she never returned. I could see she was eagerly trying to make sure other guests have their orders taken except my table. That's okay I thought, I could signal another staff to help. Everything went smoother with the second staff. She wondered which package I gotten and pointed rightly I could get certain free-flow drinks or food option with a glass of drink. After ordering, the food came in no time which was great. Just when I thought the confusion was over, I was politely asked by the same staff to provide a proof of the receipt of payment which greatly puzzled me. I understand that with a cruise full of passengers it's good to double check, however I wished the staff and management would have paid more attention to details like the table number we are sitting on and cross-check with TripAdvisor system to be sure we have paid for our tickets. Anyway I went into the office and I think the owner confirmed that everything is OK. In short, I wished the staffs have been properly trained to recognise the tickets and how best to recognise who has paid ahead and who hasn't. Also, to further check each guests to ensure they got their complimentary meal/drinks.

  A boat to ourselves with a captain, a pilot and a cooker, we had never felt so VIP. Sailing on the Mekong, visiting the silk fabric factory then the pagoda, the meal after, everything was perfect with very attentive staff. I recommend.

  The best way to get to the Kanika Boat Tours dock located along the Sisowath Quay is to take a tuk-tuk to Himawari Hotel. You will be dropped off the front of the hotel then walk towards the river, turn left. You can pay for your tickets (approx $8) before or during the cruise. Cash only! Duration is no more than 1 1/2 hours. The sunset cruise was enjoyable experience... nice, breezy, and relaxing. The staff were pleasant, especially the French lady I had a brief conversation with. They offer drinks on board. We were lucky it didn't rain and it wasn't that hot. The Mekong is murky though probably due to dredging.

  We book the tour in our hotel G Mekong and the trip last about 90 minutes. It is really nice experience. It is a must try cruise if you are in Phnom Penh. Highly recommended.

  It's refreshing to take a trip on the river after a hot day in Phnom Penh and simply enjoy the sunset, the drinks and the food.The staff is very friendly, I would totally recommend it :)
