Hola! I’m Alvaro, and together we’ll embark on an unforgettable journey into the heart of mezcal.
Our adventure begins as we head to my picturesque hometown of Mitla, surrounded by beautiful mountains and endless agave fields.
For my family and me, mezcal is more than just a drink — it’s part of our identity, our culture, and our way of life.
Driven by my passion to share our Zapotec traditions, we’ll walk through the agave fields, learning how each variety contributes to the unique flavors and aromas of mezcal. Along the way, you’ll enjoy breathtaking landscapes, capture incredible photos, and share plenty of laughs.
Next, we’ll visit my family’s artisanal distillery, where I’ll guide you through every step of the traditional production process — from roasting the agave in an underground stone oven to the final distillation. You’ll feel the dedication and love that goes into every drop.
We’ll finish our experience with a tasting of different mezcal varieties, paired with a delicious, authentic Oaxacan meal prepared with local ingredients.
Throughout the tour, I’ll be by your side, making sure you feel at home.
My goal is to make your journey into the world of mezcal not just a tour — but a memory you’ll cherish forever.

Journey Through the Agave Fields Once we arrive in the village, we’ll begin our walk through the agave fields, where the tall, proud plants stand like guardians of Oaxacan heritage. Surrounded by mountains, cacti, and endless rows of agave, we’ll immerse ourselves in their story — learning how these resilient plants transform from the embrace of the earth into the precious nectar that fills your glass. This is the perfect moment to take incredible photos, breathe in the landscape, and connect with the deep roots of mezcal culture.

Revealing Traditions Our journey continues at the doors of my family’s mezcal distillery, where the air is rich with the sweet aroma of roasted agave — a promise of the treasures that await inside. Guided by me and our maestro mezcalero, you’ll step back in time to witness the ancient process that transforms the humble agave hearts into the liquid gold known as mezcal. The highlight of our experience comes with a tasting of our finest mezcals, each one with its own character, story, and soul. The best Farm to Bottle experience

5.00I do enjoy a good mezcal and this tour helped me to better appreciate the process of making a truly good mezcal. I wanted to experience all of the steps of going from farm to bottle and I was not disappointed. Our guide was a third generation family member and his presentation clearly demonstrated his knowledge, passion, and pride in the product and the industry. The tasting session brought the whole experience to a wonderful end (at the distillery) followed by a delicious lunch off-site. I highly recommend this tour if you are looking for a similar experience.

5.00So cool to see the process from the maguey fields, to fermentation, to the bottle. We tasted 10+ mezcals and had a delicious lunch. Our guide was fun, knowledgeable, and passionate about his family distillery.

5.00This was a fantastic experience and we highly recommend it. Alvaro did a wonderful job of educating us on all things related to Mezcal growing, harvesting, and distilling. The tour provided opportunities to visit the fields to see the various species of Agave used, including some of the rarer species that the family harvests in the nearby mountains. The distilling process and the array of different Mezcals produced provided an in-depth education, and being able to taste many of them expanded our horizons on the spirit. The included lunch was incredible and far beyond what we expected. This was the most memorable distillery tour we have ever done - and we've done quite a few!

5.00This tour was wonderful in many ways. Alvaro was so kind and very knowledgeable and wanted us to really experience what a working agave/mezcal farm and distillery is like. We walked the agave fields, learned about different varieties, tried our hand at trimming the leaves with a machete, tasted several varieties after witnessing the distilling process from start to finish. Ended with a lovely lunch. Way better than our expectations! Thank you Alvaro!!

5.00We had been in Mexico for two weeks, and Oaxaca for one week, by the time we took a tour of Álvaro’s palenque. We both agreed that it was undoubtedly the most special day of the trip thus far. It ended up being just me and my partner on the tour as there were some last minute cancellations. Every aspect of the tour was wonderful, from the exploration of the agave fields to the detailed walkthrough of the distillation process at the distillery, and then the tasting of many excellent mezcals. The care and consideration Álvaro put into his explanations really demonstrated his passion for his family business. We finished the day by sharing a meal together before he drove us back to the city. My partner has many very severe food allergies and Álvaro made sure that he had safe food options to eat during the meal which we really, really appreciated. We learned a huge amount from Álvaro, and have a newfound respect and understanding for this art of mezcal production, and for Oaxaca itself. We would definitely recommend this tour, you’ll love it!! 5.00A truly unique experience to spend time with a member of a the family owned mezcal distillery. The walk through the agave plants was fun and informative and the tasting experience was a blast. Closed it out with a fulfilling and delicious lunch. Alvoral was kind, funny and informative. His family has built something beautiful and you can tell the passion will extend to future generations. This authentic experience is a “can’t miss”. Transportation is easy and comfortable.
