Beng Mealea was built in the 12th century during the reign of King Suryavarman II. It was dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. The temple is made of sandstone, and it is enclosed by a moat. It has three concentric enclosures, each of which is surrounded by a gallery. The central sanctuary is now in ruins, but the other structures are still relatively well-preserved. Beng Mealea is a popular tourist destination, but it is not as crowded as some of the other temples in Angkor. This is because it is located further away from Siem Reap city, and it is more difficult to get to. However, the temple's remote location and its overgrown state make it a unique and special place to visit.

Kompong Phluk

Kompong Phluk Village is a floating village on the Tonle Sap Lake in Cambodia. It is located about 16 kilometers (10 miles) southeast of Siem Reap, the gateway to the Angkor temples. The village is home to about 3,700 people who live in houses built on stilts above the water. The village is known for its traditional way of life, which is based on fishing and agriculture. The best time to visit Kompong Phluk Village is during the wet season (June to October), when the water levels rise and the village becomes more accessible. However, the village can be visited year-round. Once you arrive in Kompong Phluk Village, you can explore the village on foot or by boat. You can visit the floating schools, the local markets, and the flooded forests. You can also go fishing or take a boat ride on the lake. Kompong Phluk Village is a unique and fascinating place to visit. It is a glimpse into a traditional way of life that is disappearing.

We visited the Angkor site for two days with our Sokkun Guide. We were amazed by this site, each temple revealing its unique beauty in the middle of the jungle. This experience will remain one of our most discovered in Southeast Asia and our Guide, Sokkun, has largely contributed to the success of our stay. His explanations, in perfect French, proved indispensable in order to address all the cultural richness of this site. Sokkun was a very good Trip Tip about the proposed route and always concerned about our well-being making sure our stay went smoothly. He was very considerate and attentive to our children. We highly recommend discovering the site accompanied by Sokkun.

Our Angkor tour was amazing thanks to the knowledgeable and comprehensive guiding and attentive care of Thom San. When all the other guides quickly pointed out to their clients what to look at, Thom kept us focused and enthralled by the Khmer history and spiritual sagas connecting the Buddhist and Hindu lives of this ancient civilization. We felt honored to have him educate us. He kept us informed, cool, and hydrated, to keep us going, with cool temp in the car and lemongrass scented frozen towels, plus electric personal fans. Thom went above and beyond guiding us, and became a close support person to help us acclimate. And, he is a sharp photographer … see our photos he took. Thank you, Thom

Wishing we had set more time aside for Cambodia - we fell in love with it immediately upon arrival. The quiet, country pace (especially in the off season) was just what we needed after the excesses of Bangkok. Best of all was our tour guide, Thom, from Travel Inspire. He expertly guided us around the Angkor Wat Park, explaining the history and religious significance of the temples, statues and carvings - and of the ancient Khmer empire. He also answered our questions about contemporary Cambodia, and explained the work he does at his school. From what he said, booking tours through his company allows funds from tourism to be spread to other areas that do not have Siem Reap’s tourist draw. Would highly recommend booking your tour with this group.
