Overview
Glacier Country Helicopters is a local, family owned and operated company based in Franz Josef, on the West Coast of New Zealand. Husband and wife team Gus and Poppy started the company in January 2014 and you'll generally find one of them out flying most days.
On our Ultimate Discovery flight you'll see the three "big" glaciers. You'll fly over the Franz Josef, Fox & Tasman Glaciers and fly into the Southern Alps to see Mount Cook and enjoy the included 10-15 minute snow landing for photos. Total experience time approx. 45 minutes.
Please allow an extra 45minutes on top of your flight time to allow for checking in, transport to helicopter, loading, unloading and to return to our office.

Please let us know if you have limited mobility e.g. injury, arthritis or recent surgery? There are two high ladder style steps into the helicopter. This information could effect what helicopter we fly you in.
Our helicopter seats are 40cm wide. If you would like extra space or are wider than this we highly recommend booking a comfort seat which guarantees an empty seat next to you.

5.0Enjoyed every minute. Trip cut short due to weather but part of money refunded.. they kept us up to date the day before about this being a possibility. Pilot Poppy was very friendly and made sure everyone was comfortable re the ride. I would do this again.

5.0It was a great experience bit expensive but views are worth it , staff gave exceptional service. Due to weather some times were affected but staff assisted in moving time to ensure we get the experience

2.0We found this experience disappointing. We can appreciate that the weather dictated the 45 min x 3 glacier trip be modified to a 35 min x 2 glacier flight. The company refunded money as a consequence which is commendable. This trip would have been fantastic for the two people sitting in the front of the helicopter and the person sitting in the back on the right hand side. Unfortunately we were on the left hand side and in the middle at the back. I got to see the back of everyone and not a lot else. We swapped seats on the trip down hoping to rectify this but the trip down was very quick and no glaciers to be seen. If you are considering a helicopter flight maybe pick a tour that has people rotate seats and / or a smaller capacity than 6 to ensure a decent view.
