Black Desert
The Black Desert is a region of volcano-shaped and widely spaced mounds, distributed along about 30 km (19 mi) in western Egypt between the White Desert in the south and the Bahariya Oasis in the north. Most of its mounds are capped by basalt sills, giving them the characteristic black color.
Valley of Agabat
Agabat, known as the ‘Beautiful Valley’, is located in the Western Desert region of Egypt and generally is the stop off point for tourists on their way to Bahariya and the White/ Black Deserts. About a 4 hour 40 minute drive from Cairo and over 6 hours from Alexandria, the route will take you from the busy Cities into the peaceful and sparse lands into the desert regions with stunning views en route. There are no settlements at all in Agabat as the land is barren and extreme temperatures in the summer months would make living extremely harsh. Whilst Agabat is smaller and considered a small valley in comparison to the Bahariya area, it is nonetheless stunning in it’s own unique way. With beautiful mountain formations and many white cliff faces similar to the White Desert, it also immerses into the sand dunes linked alongside the Sahara Desert and unusual yellow limestone rocks. The sides of the mountains here are higher and steeper than the route leading to Bahariya and Farafra.
White Desert
The white desert is the most popular and interesting area in the Western Desert. The white desert became a protected area since 2002. It occupies a surface area of around three thousand kilometers. On the road that goes between Farafra and Baharya, one can see the first bizarre rock formation in the white desert. Some rocks look like animals, mushrooms, and some rocks have totally strange shapes, The famous and dramatic gleaming chalk landscape of the Farafra Depression is one of the most astounding natural wonders of Egypt. The strange rock formations that rise above the white surface of the desert are known as inselbergs (from the German for ‘island mountain, The rock layers were deposited when the desert was underwater and marine fauna which died settled at the bottom of the ocean forming sedimentary rocks. Viewing the sparkling white landscape covered with almost supernatural shapes spectacularly lit at dawn, midday and especially sunset there.

This tour is a must have if you stayed in Cairo! Everything is very well organised and unlike other tours you are picked up exactly on time. Both white and black deserts are like out of this world! The driver is super nice and pleasant. Food is top especially bearing in mind that you are in desert in the middle of nowhere 👍 Sleeping under the clear sky is smth very special as well 👍 NB: there is no network connection once you leave the camp and head to the desert.

A simply extraordinary experience in the White and Black deserts, breathtaking landscapes ✨ A huge thank you to Walid, a truly great guide, of incredible kindness, caring and passionate, who took care of us like never before. He even prepared us a delicious meal, a real moment of sharing in the middle of the desert. The organization was at its best from start to finish. I recommend this excursion with closed eyes, an unforgettable memory!

All the deserts were beautiful and it was a great experience. Unfortunately, the full moon made it possible to see very few stars, but it was still a wonderful experience to spend the night in the desert. I owe it to my guides, David and Amet, thank you so much. It was extremely cold in the desert at night, so be sure to bring your own winter gear.

During my week in Egypt, this trip was by far the highlight. We had people from all age groups and backgrounds on the excursion and everyone had a similarly great time. For anyone who wants to truly experience the wonders of the desert with extremely knowledgable guides (Hazim was the best), I couldn’t recommend this outfit more.

The desert landscapes are truly magical; truly a gem among the deserts of this world! The tour is organized efficiently and our driver/guide Hassan works with great conviction and passion for the desert. Once at the basecamp it is wonderful to stay on top of a rock or in a quiet meditative spot. The sunrise is truly special! There is good cooking and a campfire in the desert is a back-to-basics feeling. That the tents are already set up is pure luxury. The jeeps are cool and well adapted to off-road driving. Tip: I would have liked to read in the description that the camping equipment was provided, because I doubted that for a while: here: a mat, warm sleeping bag of good quality, a blanket is available for every participant.

Must do tour if you are looking to explore desert of Egypt. All the stops - White Desert, Black Desert, Crystal Mountain, are great. And since it's a desert and there is no light and clouds, night sky looks amazing. Having said that, the tour has a potential to be an incredible adventure. The tour starts early in the day with boarding a comfortable van which stops at gas stations for coffee, snacks and toilets(not included). Finally the van stops at a village where the okay-ish lunch and snacks are served(included). There are multiple vans and people(not many, in total may be 40-50 people) from them are then divided into 4 people per 4x4 vehicle. You will not meet them until the end of the tour(which is great, feels kind of personal tour). Everything from hereon feel very rushed because the tour is chasing sunset in White Desert, which btw is incredible. But in that process, stops for other activities become very short and the fun kinda feels stop midway. For example, there is a stop for sand boarding and the view is also amazing but you only get to board once because either another group is joining or it's getting late. Similarly, you get to climb a hill of black stones, again amazing views, but you only have like 20 minutes. I went till halfway and it was an amazing photography spot. At the peak it must have been better, couple of quick climbers got up there. We did this tour in Dec'25, its comfortably sunny at that time even at peak noon. I think they can alter the tour a little at that time of year. One of the activity can be done in the morning of the second day which can give everything ample amount of time IMO. Additionally, it would be great to have like a portable toilet at the camping spot instead of going out in the open(I get it, it's an adventure). But since every bit of the experience is controlled, why save on toilet. It will also allow making the 2nd day a bit eventful by moving an activity otherwise everyone was just waiting to reach to village spot for access to a toilet. I believe the food option can also be improved at the village spot. I am vegetarian so I understand the limited options but a better vegetarian Egyptian food will do, a lot. Everything said, go for it!

We had a magical experience on our white desert tour. We had the best guide and driver, Ahmud, we were camping in a small group and everything was perfect. The stars are magical, the food was delicious, and the rides were so much fun thanks to Ahmud. Best tour you can do in Egypt.

The tour was very good. The oasis was a water tank. I can't swim. The toilet is of course field droppings and field piss. The biggest pain was that one of the guides was racist towards the Japanese. It was really painful to spend two whole days with that person. The person thinks the racist remark is one of the jokes. He is a tall man who studies Japanese on his phone and explores the desert on his holidays. Without this person, the tour would have been a perfect 100. We hope this guide will improve our response.

Excellent experience, very well organized, amazing scenery, exceptional desert dinner. Obviously the overnight stay is spartan, but aligned to the type of experience. The only small disappointment, the hot springs are simple tubs on the sides of a road.
