Cafe Papeneiland
Your guide welcomes you in front of one of Amsterdam’s most iconic and centuries-old ‘brown cafes’ where you will taste the famous homemade Dutch apple pie just like Bill Clinton once did. On this tour a non-alcoholic drink, draft beer or glass of wine is price included. If you like you can also pay your guide cash €10 for a ‘Drinks Upgrade’ for 2 local craft beers, Dutch Jenevers (gin) or prosecco or 1 cocktail / mix drink (and 1 regular drink)
Mingle with the locals at this luxury delicatessen, where doing something very Dutch—‘een broodje halen’ (grabbing a fresh sandwich)—is part of daily life. Join Amsterdam residents who come here to relax with friends and enjoy their favorite sandwiches. You’ll be served their signature 'Broodje Grillworst Speciaal': a freshly baked baguette filled with warm, flavorful pork sausage, topped with honey-mustard sauce, mayonnaise, pine nuts, and arugula. Served with a soft drink of your choice. Vegetarian options are available.

Tour was amazing and our guide was excellent. A perfect variety of types of food and drink. From informal street foods to excellent cheese and wine pairings. Wonderful review of history from different eras of the city. Would strongly recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our walking tour with Rudolf. He was very knowledgeable about history of the city. We loved the different places we went to taste foods and drinks and of course the cheese. I would highly recommend!

We really enjoyed this tour. It was our first day in the city and a great introduction. Our guide Thijs was really informative and gave us a good introduction of the history of the city and the local food. We tried the famous apple pie, lots of cheese, sausages, bitten ballen, pancakes and some spicy chicken satay along with local beer and mint tea. All in the lovely Jordaan area of the city. Highly recommend.

Great first day activity while fighting jet lag and getting a taste of Amsterdam literally and figuratively. Our guide, Nanno was great. He shared historical anecdotes and local contemporary facts. We stopped in a local church with an amazing light show inside.

Our favorite way to learn about a new city is through its food. Isabelle, our expert guide, showed us the fascinating city through the eyes of a local. We enjoyed this tour from start to finish: the apple tart, local cheeses, herring, bitterballen, and pofferjes were all amazing. Our favorite stop was for Indonesian sate! We ended our tour with full bellies and a much better understanding of the local history, architecture, and customs. Thank you, Isabelle for your kindness and expertise. Don’t miss this tour!

The food was great! Unfortunately, there are only 4 stops, which I didn’t feel were enough tastings. Maybe future tours can include more tastings. If you haven’t done a history tour of the Jordaan area, it’s informative. If you’ve already done a walking tour, then it’s very repetitive.

This was my second time taking this tour but this time I brought two of my friends on their first trip to Amsterdam. It’s the most informative and unique two hours and both of my friends are still talking about it nearly a day later
