Since the old days, the houses in Amsterdam were known to have been built on wooden foundation piles that are driven deep into the clay, peat, and water until they reach the first layer of solid sand.

5.00Learned a lot from the tour, I wasn't at all aware of how the laws work regarding the district and its windows and coffeeshop. The guide was also very friendly and certainly knew all about Amsterdam, he turned the tour into a great experience!
