What To Expect

Jinshanling Great Wall

08:00: Meet up with our driver at the meeting point in downtown Beijing and board the bus for a scenic 2.5-hour drive to Jinshanling Great Wall. 10:30: Arrive at Jinshanling and select your own hiking options: Option 1: Loop hiking from Mid Gate to East Gate 3.5-4 hours/7km Good body shape, hiking experience, active adventurers, many big step, elevation gain up to 450m Option 2: Return hiking through Mid Gate 2.5-3.5hours, many options, referred to our maps Seniors, people with knee problem 14:30: Back to the parking lot and drive back to Beijing. 17:00-17:30: Back to the same meeting point in downtown, timing depends on traffic. This section offers arguably the finest hiking anywhere on the Great Wall. It is extremely photogenic, with over 15 watch-towers, and steep gradients that give constantly changing perspectives and wide, open views. This section of the wall is wild, ruined, preserved and original. On a clear day, it is difficult to fail to take good photographs here.

Zhang Feng was a great guide. He was happy, positive, and giving. Despite the wall being closed due to weather, he tried incredibly hard to give us a good experience. I think the tour operator needs to come up with a plan, though, when weather impacts the closer of the wall- making alternate plans to other sections or leaving in the afternoon, or anything else. Waiting around for the possibility of it maybe opening was very frustrating. But Zhang Feng made it fun!

Excellent walk/hike on a less frequented part of the old wall. In two hours we saw only two other small groups, so we had a chance to enjoy the peace and quiet whilst admiring the wall and scenery. Slightly busier when we cut back to the new wall for the last half an hour before taking the chair lift down. Guide was great. Thoroughly recommend this trip.

This was a amazing day on the great wall. We had a small group of 6 and we had not realised we had booked such a hike. It was alot tougher than we expected and had the potential to be very dangerous however the tour guide Tao was amazing and helped everyone along. He was very informative and made the day great. We were given ample amounts of food and the small group size was great to make friends with others. Tao took many photos for us and always ensured everyone was ready to get going! The lunch afterwards was great and we had SO much food, kept getting asked if we wanted more! I would definitely recommend this tour but make sure you are able to walk up steep steps that are crumbling and make sure you wear runners and exercise clothes!!

The whole experience was incredible. The hike itself was challenging but absolutely worth it for the experience. The tour guide and driver were both incredibly professional. I would recommend this experience with the strongest endorsement.
