Guided by a professional calligraphy instructor, you’ll use handmade brushes from Kumano, Hiroshima — Japan’s top brush-making town — and enjoy a calm, creative moment to express yourself.
Write your own calligraphy on a fan or shikishi and take home a unique souvenir.
The workshop is held at “Takumi,” a 50-year-old folk craft shop.
One wall is beautifully decorated with ukiyo-e prints, creating an artistic atmosphere.
“Takumi” is also known as Hiroshima’s leading craft shop, offering traditional items from across Japan.

5.00Teacher was very clear, supportive and encouraging. He took us through all the different tools we would be using and their names in Japanese. Then he guided us through the basic stroke types before giving us the opportunity to complete our design on a paper fan that we got to keep. Amazing learning experience and absolutely would recommend.

I was struggling with calligraphy when I was a child, but as I was writing as an adult, my memories of it came back to me and I felt fresh. It was a unique experience only available at Hotel Blank.
