DMZ
DMZ is demilitarized zone and a buffer zone between North Korea and South Korea. The lines reach 248 km in length from Jeongdong-ri, Paju-si to Myeongho-ri, Goseong-gun. At the present time, an area within 2 km in both the north and south side is designated as the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). Excluding the DMZ, the overall area is considered to be the most heavily militarized region in the world.
The Third Tunnel
The 3rd Tunnel was discovered by South Korea in 1978. It spans over 1,635m in length, 2m in width, and 2m in height and is located 52km from Seoul. It is estimated that approximately 30,000 soldiers could move through the tunnel per hour. The scale is similar to the 2nd Tunnel, but it was thought to be more threatening as an invasion tool than the 1st and 2nd Tunnels. Located only 4km away from Imjingak toward the southwest and 3.5km from the Tongilchon area, it is accessible by car in approximately 45 min from Seoul.

I was, frankly, quite disappointed with this tour. This is actually my second time to the DMZ, and I have to say, if this was my first experience, I wouldn’t have come back a second time. First, I felt the driver was driving too fast, for the wet and dark weather. Second, because our guide was also the driver, he couldn’t tell us anything at all about the DMZ throughout the ride - this was different from my first experience where the guide was able to share a lot of history and interesting stories, because there was a dedicated driver and a dedicated guide. Third, I felt he could have been better with sharing instructions, for example, he could share with the group what was the itinerary for that day right from the beginning so everyone knew what to expect (we didn’t know we were hiking up some mountain on a slippery icy day - it wasn’t in the tour package description - and some of us ended up having some trouble climbing up and down as we weren’t prepared). All these led to an overall feeling of the tour not being as smooth as I’d like.

Our tour guide Roy is great! However the time is too short for me as I appreciate savoring time with the place when it comes to history and culture. Overall, I had a good experience. Good and not excellent 🙂because it's winter and the view is not clear. I will take the tour again given the chance to be back.

It went on as described but be prepared for some hiking 🤣. Schedules may be tight but it is a regulated site so should be expected.

Patrik was the best tour guide I could ask for. Perfect English explanations, he answered all my questions and curiousities that I had, made jokes along the way and gave us a good vibe and experience. Lenght of visit inside DMZ was 3 hours total, a little rushed but I can understand why.

It was really informative and entertaining to listen and learn about the history and heritage at the DMZ from the tour guide, Patrick. 10/10 would come again (hopefully the JSA will be open for viewing again next time!!)

Patrick was very helpful and gave a lot of insights about things that we wouldn’t be able to find online. It was an amazing experience and I would recommend it to everyone!

Thank you to our tour guide, Patrick for sharing a lot of interesting information today. I love Korean food, skin care and dramas but I overlooked how challenging it is for Koreans in terms of national security.
