We work exclusively with local, passionate mushers who view their dog teams as their family, and you will have the chance to understand this incredible sport on your hourlong ride through the snowy forest. You will ride on a genuine dogsled, either seated or standing, as the team of 8 dogs swings through the forest with you and your guide at a comfortable but thrilling pace. You will also have the chance to see the dog kennels, and a replica of a dog-sled race checkpoint, where the competitive mushers stop for fuel and rest on their long winter races.

On your reindeer tour, our experienced reindeer handlers will introduce you to the herd of reindeer at Borealis Basecamp, and you can feed, meet, and take pictures with these incredible animals.

What To Expect

We will pick you up from your hotel in the morning. It is a 45 minute drive North on the world famous Elliott Highway to Borealis Basecamp. We are located in the heart of the Boreal Forest, with panoramic views of the valley. Included in your trip is a 1-hour dogsledding tour & a 30-minute long reindeer meet and greet tour. We work with local, passionate mushers who view their dogs as their family, and you will have the chance to understand this incredible sport on your ride through the snowy forest. On this 30 minute long tour, you have the chance to meet our Alaskan born reindeer. They live at Basecamp all year, eating a diet of reindeer feed and natural treats. Your tour guide will show you how reindeer live in the Arctic year round and give you the opportunity to feed and take photos with them! Lunch is held at Latitude 65, our on-site restaurant. The menu consists of hot and cold sandwiches, noodle dishes, and a rotating menu of features and fresh soups. You may also enjoy some of our complimentary resort activities, such as fat tire bike rentals, tubing down a sledding hill, or joining us for a nature walk to the Pipeline. You depart from Borealis Basecamp at 4:30pm.

  • Exciting adventure!

It was an awesome adventure! It’s a base camp with a LOT of activities you can do (some free ones), and purchase a la carte if you see something that isn’t on your package. They pick you up and drop you off from your hotel! I got to walk a domesticated reindeer named Alice like It was a puppy dog, leaded a sleigh puller by dogs (also had my passanger turn) and had a great meal! It was really exciting (prepare for the raindeer trail, the way back is pretty steep)

We were picked up from our hotel @9am, we arrived at the camp ~ 10sh. We checked in at the activity center and we are scheduled @ 12:30p for our dog sled ride. The ride is 2.5 miles and the activity lasted less than 30 minutes . Our next reindeers encounter activity is 2:30pm, so killed our time eating at latitude 66 resto ( despite of $20 per person voucher meal voucher). We found this activity too pricey . Try to find somewhere else. You may visit Pike’s Landing.. free to encounter with the reindeers. Will def. not recommended this to my friend and families for the price of activity .

  • A nice and unique experience

The operation is highly professional, experienced and friendly. Our drivers to and from hotel were friendly and very engaging. The basecamp location is very unique and well maintained. Only suggestion is to better explain where restaurant is located within the property. No signage as to where it’s located and when ask the response of “across the street” is not clear or accurate. It’s on the other side of the property and a bit of a walk specially in icy conditions.

  • Loved it!

This was amazing. Our favorite was the dogs and the dog sledding. Both my kids now want to do that when they grow up! It was beyond beautiful up there. We also loved that there was so much to do between activities.

  • Time allowed is excessive.

The activities and staff were amazing!! Both our musher and reindeer guide were so knowledgeable and patient. They answered so many questions and still were happy to share! Entire staff from pickup to check in to lunch were great. My rating comes from the fact that there was 4.5 hours where we were sitting around waiting. 1.5 hours before activity started, 1.5 hours after mushing and another 1.5 hours after reindeer experience before we were picked up to go back to town. Shorter duration would have opened our day up to see more of amazing Fairbanks.

  • Dog sled great but too much waiting around

Dog sledding was great! I didn’t rent a car so hotel pick up was why I chose this company. Everyone was super nice. Reindeer experience was okay. Too much waiting around time during the day.

Both dogmusher and reindeer interaction guides were friendly and very knowledgeable, answering questions and providing lots of interesting information. We spent time before the dogsledding greeting the dogs and getting photos. Both guides took lots of pics of us so we had a great memento of the interactions and experience.
