Holy Island
Lindisfarne, also known as Holy Island, is a unique island connected to the mainland by a causeway. This leads to the quaint village of Lindisfarne which offers sensational views of the Priory that shares its name. During the winter months, the Priory is closed but we are able to visit the beautiful gardens. The island is also home to monks, who brew the world-famous Lindisfarne ‘Mead’. While you are here, immerse yourself in the peace and tranquility for which the island is renowned. Should it not be possible to visit Holy Island due to the tidal conditions, this tour will visit the picturesque seaside village of St Abbs, named after a Northumberland Princess who was washed ashore in the area following a shipwreck. You might also recognise the village, and its stunning surroundings of rugged coastline and bays from the movie Avengers: Endgame, as it was the filming location for New Asgard.
Alnwick
From here, we will continue down England’s northeast coast towards the bustling market town of Alnwick, home to the magnificent Alnwick Garden (optional extra). Here, you may choose to visit the Garden with its wonderful Grand Cascade and Poison Gardens, or spend your time exploring the charming streets of the town. Whilst in the town, you may also be able to spot Alnwick Castle, famous as a filming location for both Downton Abbey and the Harry Potter film series.

Had an amazing trip with our guide Sam who managed to include a few extra stops along the way. Good humor and great knowledge on the history of the Scots. Feel free to reach out to TimberBush bus tours for a great time, any time!

My adult daughters and I recently took this tour at the end of November. Ash was our tour guide/bus driver. Because the destination is relatively close and it’s a small group tour (in a large comfortable van), we got to spend a lot of time seeing the sites versus driving. The Holy Island was inaccessible the day we had our tour, so obviously we couldn’t do that. I was very happy with the replacements though. We first stopped at St.Abbs which is absolutely beautiful, and the filming location of a Marvel movie. We then drove to Eyemouth to see the harbor. I took videos and pictures of the seal that hangs about there. Plus it’s a very pretty harbor, and it was interesting to see all the fishing boats. Our next stop was Alnwick. We got a quick photo stop to see the outside of the castle (closed during the winter). We then had the option of exploring the town, or visiting Alnwick. Garden (extra fee). I chose the garden. I got to see the famous (or infamous!) poison garden. I also walked around the adorable Lilidorei play land and Christmas tree village. Our last stop of the day was Bamburgh Castle. Absolutely gorgeous. It’s on a hillside overlooking a beach and the ocean. We first toured the castle (extra fee), which was decorated for Christmas. We then had time to walk along the beach and through the sand dunes. This tour ended up being one of our favorite things we did during our 10 day trip to Edinburgh. I felt like we really saw a lot in one day.

This tour was absolutely unbelievable. I’ve travelled all over Scotland and visited more than a dozen castles, and Bamburgh Castle is my favourite by far. Our guide, Ash, was fantastic, he explained the history along the way in such an engaging and informative way. If you’re thinking about going on this tour, do it! You’ll be beyond happy that you did

Incredible experience and overall tour! Went to some fantastic places finishing up in Bamburg. Ash was our tour guide and was brilliant! Made the trip. Not only was he a really nice guy but his knowledge of Edinburgh, Scotland and the places we visited were incredible. The history lessons and story telling on the tour bus going from location to location made the journeys just as interesting as the actual places we visited! We come up to Edinburgh from London usually once a year and this is the first time booking a tour like this and it’s safe to say we’ll be booking another one for sure when we come back! (And likely asking if we can tour with Ash again!)

This was a great experience. Jim our tour guide was knowledgeable, caring, and such a joy! He knew what he talked about. Learned a lot of new facts from him. Wonderful music played through the bus ride. Was worried how my neurodivergent kid would have this but she enjoyed herself! A great day for the neurodivergent kids is always a plus! My reason for booking was Bamburgh. I loved Timberbush Tours offered Bamburgh and made it so easy to schedule. Although Alnwick Castle was closed, all 3 locations were beautiful and a blessing to see. This is also a great tour for movie/TV site tourists; Holy Island - 28 Years Later, Alnwick - Harry Potter 1 & 2 and Robin Hood, and Bamburgh Castle - Downtown Abbey and The Last Kingdom. Can't wait to book my next tour when I come back to Scotland!

This was a great trip/tour. Jim our tour guide was amazing. He gave facts and info on the road and at location. He knows his stuff and what he is doing! Although Alnwick Castle was closed all 3 locations were stunning and I was excited I had enough time to walk Bamburgh Castle which was my main reason booking this tour. Happy my neurodivergent daughter enjoyed herself as I worried how was she going to handle it. I would definitely book again with Timberbush tours. This is a great tour if you are a movie site visitor Holy Island - 28 Years Later, Bamburgh Castle - The Last Kingdom, Alnwick - Harry Potter 1 & 2 as well as Downtown Abbey and Robin Hood.

It was an amazing experience! Our guide Mark did his best job to bring the history and lifestyle of England and Scotland to us, while being a fantastic and fun person to chat with. The tour goes around one of the most underrated landscapes in the country, where you can feel like in the middle of a medieval tale (specially the castle of Bamburgh). Can't recommend this tour enoguh!
