Discover the underground world, its secrets and legends by visiting Wieliczka Salt Mine - one of precious treasures in the cultural history of Poland. Until now it has been visited by over 40 million tourists from all over the world and in 1978 it was inscribed in the UNESCO list of world's heritage sites. Along the tourist route you will have a chance to visit around 20 gorgeous chambers, see saline lakes, tools and machines used for the process of mining and works of art: dozens of exquisite sculptures and bas-reliefs carved in salt - human hands' creations. Thanks to the guidance provided by licenced Salt Mine's guides you will learn about the history of the mine and lives of many generations of miners and their principle of hard work. There are 800 steps to walk down (350 of them will take you to reach the depth of 135 metres underground, the steps are wide and there are handrails) and at the end of the tour the lift brings you back up.

The Salt Mine tour includes 800 steps descending into a depth of 135 meters underground and up to 3 km of winding corridors.
The temperature inside the Salt Mine is stable all year long, around 14 degrees Celcius.
There is an original miner's lift to bring you up to the surface.
The exit shaft is 500 m away from the one used to enter the mine.
Not recommended for travellers with a fear of small enclosed spaces.

5.00Excellent trip! Just make sure you are aware there are 800 steps in total to level three in the mine. There is also a very small lift back up to the surface it takes only 9 people, a bit of a squeeze!

5.00I didn't quite know what to expect from the Salt Mines, but they were incredible. I would recommend this tour if you don't feel comfortable navigating public transport, our driver was excellent, dropped us off, got our tickets, told us where to go and where to meet afterwards. The tour itself is well organised, and the guides are brilliant. The mines themselves are so impressive - we never felt claustrophobic in case that's a worry, but there is a lot of walking and steps.

2.00With this tour, you are just basically paying for a ride to the salt mine and for someone to get you a ticket in advance. Anyone who visits the mine is put in a a group with a guide who speaks the groups language. The guides work for the mine. Obviously, we didn't know all this beforehand. So, we signed up and it was a 1200 pickup time. Then get notified the day before that pickup time has changed to 1300. We get picked up at 1300, ride 25 minutes to the mine then to find out we don't get to enter until 1430. We opted to visit this site based research that said it was one of the top attractions in Krakow. I really don't understand why. Once inside, you walk and walk and walk through endless passages with very little to see. There are a few places where there are sculptures carved from salt but it's really not that exciting. After you've spent 2.5 hours walking and the tour is over, we waited another 30 minutes to get the lift back to the surface. We walked away disappointed that used one of days in Krakow on this experience.
