What To Expect
Muro Das Nove Janelas
The Muro das Nove Janellas, located in the Sete Cidades region on São Miguel Island in the Azores, is one of the island's most iconic landmarks, rich in history and significance. Built in the 18th century, this wall was originally constructed to demarcate agricultural properties and also serve as a retaining structure for the land on the slopes of the Sete Cidades crater. The wall is notable for its nine arched openings, known as "janellas" (windows). These "windows" are not traditional windows but openings designed to allow rainwater to pass through and to serve as ventilation points. The wall stretches across one of the most beautiful and photographed areas of the island, offering stunning views of the Sete Cidades lakes.
Miradouro Das Cumeeiras
The Miradouro da Cumeeira is one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in the Sete Cidades region on São Miguel Island, Azores. Located along the rim of the volcanic caldera, this viewpoint offers panoramic views of the iconic Sete Cidades lakes, with their vibrant blue and green hues. The name "Cumeeira" refers to the ridge that runs along the caldera’s edge, providing a perfect vantage point to appreciate the dramatic beauty of the landscape. From the viewpoint, visitors are treated to sweeping views of the lakes nestled between the surrounding lush hills, the picturesque village of Sete Cidades, and the vast ocean in the distance. The contrasting colors of the lakes, depending on the light and weather conditions, make this spot especially popular for photographers and nature lovers.
