Perfume Pagoda
8.00: Start from your hotel in Hanoi, pick you up to start the journey. Perfume pagoda is about 60 km away in the South West of Hanoi. The driver would take you to enjoy the countryside before you reach the pagoda. 10.00 : Start the sampan ride to the main pagoda. As a religious center, there are 18 pagodas surrounding it. Today, our sampan will bring you to the Registration Hall – Den Trinh, to the Heavenly Kitchen – Thien Tru. Have lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch, take a round trip cable car to the most beautiful cave of Vietnam with the pagoda inside – Huong Tich. Here, Vietnamese people would love to pray at some strange shaped rocks such as Silver, Gold, Boys or Girls, or simply at a rice pile made from rock. 15.00 Row back to the mainland and take a ride back to your hotel in Hanoi. 18.00-18h30 : Finish the journey at your hotel in Hanoi.

Really happy we booked this experience for several reasons: our guide Minh is from the village and was so knowledgeable. He’s a great storyteller and we loved learning about the culture. There were practically no tourists and only locals. The views were amazing. Everything was perfectly organized and scheduled well, with the perfect amount of time for travel, for learning and for exploring. There’s also a lot of bathroom breaks, which reassures me when on these types of outings. The different combination of smells also make for a unique experience. Would definitely recommend to anyone staying in Hanoi!

Great tour. A lot of walking up and steps. Beautiful scenery. Tour guide Minh was really nice. He’s from the village, so he’s very knowledgeable about the history and 3 months festival that takes place there.

It was raining and the 30 kms boat ride with someone rowing was a bit long. And no cover except ponchos we had to buy The tour itself was enjoyable, although a lot of steps and slippery. One of the ladies slipped and hurt her knee. We were advised to tip Lady rowing boat., when we did she keep saying 'not enough'. We were led to believe the boat ride was part of the tour, so should be covered with payment of tour. Then we had to pay the cart driver to drive us 2 kms to our boat.

Minh is a very good guide who, as many have pointed out, comes from the village at the starting point of the Perfume Pagoda visit. This was a good tour. The boat ride was a bit uncomfortable, crammed in for around an hour, but the pagoda tour was interesting. Similar scenery to Ninh Binh, but the cave at the top of the pagoda is quite large and impressive. It doesn't seem worth walking up to the cave since shops line the whole way up, mostly shut in the non pilgrimage season (when they get almost 2 million people visiting in a very short time). In which case you'll want to take the gondola up which gives you a very good view of the forest and area. It's 220K Dong return and absolutely worth it. Some people have mentioned that Minh puts extra on the fare but he definitely doesn't, the fare is listed clearly at the ticket office. The lunch is massive and very good. You won't need much breakfast because you have lunch quite early.

Our travel guide Minh was the best guide, very positive and happy. Unfortunately we travelled with a family who had a small child, that was a nightmare, but Minh made it a good experience.
